“You were mine!” I gasp and look up. I tremble. Pavel is standing above me with a gun pointed at me. His face is twisted with rage and burned by fire. “You were mine, you little whore! I was the one who should have taken you! I’m the one who should have had you as my little toy!”

He jabs the gun at me, and I pale.

“If I can’t have you, littledevochka,” he hisses. “No one can.”

The gun fires, and I scream. But I feel nothing. Pavel though suddenly goes limp. The gun falls from his fingers, and he falls to the floor. Behind him, a hulking figure clouded in smoke suddenly steps forward. I sob in happiness.

“I’ve got you.”

Micheal rushes into me. His huge arms circle me tightly, and I cry into his chest.

“I’ve got you, baby,” he whispers. His strong hands grip the ropes. He snarls, and they snap. There’s an explosion in the background, but he doesn’t even flinch. He pulls me into his arms and stands. I look around at the utter chaos. But I realize most of the men still left standing are Scaliamis. A few more shots ring out. Then, they’re the only ones still standing.

Micheal just starts moving. “Let’s get out of here,” he groans into my ear. He yells at his men, and they all start to run out of the burning warehouse. I see my uncle and a handful of his soldiers by the door. He nods at me and runs out along with Micheal’s men.

Micheal dashes through the doorway with me in his arms. He bolts across the parking lot with the rest of his people. Suddenly, we hear a creaking and smashing sound. I gasp and look back, just as the warehouse crumbles in on itself. Flames engulf the whole structure, illumining all of us in flickering orange light.

I feel wetness against me. I gasp and look down to see blood. But it’s not mine.

“Micheal!”

“I’m fine, baby,” he murmurs. He doesn’t set me down. He keeps his arms tight around me.

“You’re bleeding!”

He grins. “Doesn’t matter.”

“You… you found me?”

He nods at my uncle. “He showed us, actually.”

“Really?”

He shrugs. “People change.” I frown, and he smiles. “Or they just get mad enough to forget allegiances.”

I roll my eyes. “That sounds more like my uncle.” I look into Micheal’s eyes. My arms slide around his neck. “You came for me.”

“I’ll always come for you,” he growls tightly. “Always.”

“Maybe I should stop getting myself into trouble in burning buildings.”

He roars with laugher. I smile when he looks deep into my eyes. He leans close and kisses me softly. “Nothing would keep me from coming to you, ever,” he whispers. “Not even fire.”

His hand moves up to my neck. He wraps his fingers around my locket. I slide my hand over his, our fingers entwining. I look into his eyes, and he looks right into my soul.

“I love you, Katrina,” he groans.

“I’ve loved you for ten years,” I whisper back. “Since before I even knew you.”

“Look, this whole thing…” he frowns. “I know it was an arrangement. A business thing.”

“Micheal…”

“No, let me say this,” he growls. He sets me down and takes my hands. “Katrina…”

He suddenly drops to his knees in front of me. There are sirens in the background. The building next to us is a fiery collapsed Hell. But all I see is him. He looks up at me with those perfect, smoldering eyes.

“Will you marry me, Katrina?” He whispers. “Again. But for real this time? For love?”
