“I figured I’d find you with your…” he glances around at the queens, “friends. Richard was always talking about how he’d bring you to these things.”

“Watch yourself, buddy,” Ermine mutters over my shoulder, like he’s spoiling for a fight.

“I told you to keep away from me the last time we talked,” I remind Nathaniel. When he’d shown up at campus a little over a week ago I really thought I’d made it obvious that I didn’t want anything to do with him. But maybe I hadn’t been clear enough. This time I will be.

Spinning in my Lulu Blues, I leave him standing there in the midst of the queens he’s just insulted.

Chapter Two

Rogue

She’s so fucking sexy in that dress. I know it’s supposed to be a wedding dress, but I can see her ruffled panties and that garter that hugs her thigh and my brain can only think about what it’ll take to get her naked except those two items. And even then, those panties aren’t going to stand in my way for long. The only thing between us at this point is her choice to wait.

“Who is that?” Riot asks over my shoulder. He’s subdued. A little weird. He’s been off these last couple days, but then Ro hasn’t been around, so that’s got to be why. He nods at the guy talking to Ivy.

I recognize him, I think. He was there on campus when I had coffee with Ivy before I found out she was also Uma. There’s something about him that rubs me the wrong way. Usually I get a bit of a sixth-sense, but this guy, I don’t have a clue what it is about him that puts my teeth on edge. Perhaps it’s just the fact that he seems like a pretentious douche or that he’s old enough to be her father and yet he’s hanging around like a creep.

My girl’s shoulders droop, her arms go around her waist. She turns around to run from whatever conversation they’re having.

She’s run from me a time or two, so I should recognize what it looks like. I see the panic in her eyes before she registers that I’m there. My name leaves her pretty lips as relief floods those honey caramel planets of emotion.

My arms go around her waist as she hurries into them.

“Can we go?” She grabs hold of my shirt. “Please.”

“Who is that?” I glare at the guy over her head. He studies me like I’m unexpected and he doesn’t know what to make of the way I’m holding Ivy.

“A friend of my mom’s. He used to be in business with my dad.” She gulps air, tries to relax. “It doesn’t matter.”

“I think it does.” I guide her back so I can take her face between my hands. She looks good. Better. Beautiful. The bruising around her eyes from running into the doorframe while attempting to flee from me isn’t really visible under her makeup, and the puffiness is gone. But all that confidence I saw in her on the stage has dissipated.

I don’t do grumpy, cocky bullshit like my brother, but she brings out the bear in me. Whoever the guy is…he’s about to find out that I won’t take kindly to him harassing my girlfriend.

“Please, let’s just go.” She grips at my shirt.

I untangle her fingers and gently guide her to Riot’s side. “Stay here.”

“Rogue, don’t.” There’s worry in her gaze.

“Gotta let him do what he needs to do.” Riot drapes an arm around her shoulder as I focus on the guy who is about to learn he can’t mess with Ivy.

The dude swallows as I stalk toward him. The confidence that had been in his expression when he was talking to Ivy turns to wariness. Good, he should be worried. I’m the easygoing twin, until you mess with someone I care about.

He checks the knot in his tie and then hurries toward the exit, pushing aside two of the guys changing out of their costumes. They exchange shocked glances.

“Really?” the one who helped me with my makeup that time I was summoned to the Mojito Bar gripes.

“How freaking rude,” the other adds as I continue after my quarry.

I run into Adira as he enters the room. Watch the guy’s back as he retreats. “Damn it.”

“Everything okay?” Adira asks.

“That guy who just rushed out of here… do you know him?”

“Sorry?” He glances over his shoulder. “I must have missed him. I was a tad preoccupied.”

He lifts his phone between us to indicate what had his attention. There’s a text on the screen that’s so full of innuendo I’m almost intimidated by Adira’s sexual prowess. “You’re really going to do that? With the bananas? And the whipped cream? And…” What the fuck? “Nitrogen?”
