“Was there more than just the vampire aiding in the abduction?”

Chuff. Soft, almost breathy, with a little bit of whine thrown in. He was upset about it. Don’t ask me how I could tell, but I could.

“How many? Two?”

Silence.

“Three?”

Silence.

“Four?”

Chuff.

“All human?”

Chuff.

“Were there other people, where they were holding you?”

Chuff.

“How many? Two?”

A whine this time.

“I don’t think he knows,” I interrupted.

Chuff.

“At least five?” Raj asked.

Chuff.

“More?”

A whine.

“Okay,” Raj ran his free hand through dark, wavy hair. “Do you know what they were doing?”

An extended whine, then he turned to look up at me with his brown eye.

“You know something, but not everything?” I guessed.

Chuff.

“You understand that we need to know what you know, yes?” Raj asked him.

Chuff.

“And you can’t shift?”

A half-growl, half-whine. He was definitely not happy about not being able to shift.

Raj sighed.

“Zhou said it could be kidney-related,” I said. “I also asked him to check for drugs.”
