It remained to be seen whether he could damage the mothership from a distance. Unable to move, fight, or speak, his spark was his last resort—and it was going wild in the prison of his body.

Somehow… he would fight this.

For now, he drifted off into nightmares.

CHAPTER26

LUCCA

Lucca tucked her tablet into her jumper, holding it close to her body and hoping they didn’t take it away. When they broke her out of the cell she said nothing. She was practically catatonic as they gently escorted her out.

She was moved to a part of the Aerinus she’d never seen before and placed in a pristine-looking suite of rooms. It wasn’t the prison block, but it wasn’t her old, narrow cabin either. It was in the diplomat quarters.

Diplomats. Hah.

There were none on this ship.

The two men who transported her looked at her with pity-filled eyes. They hated to see one of their own like this at the hands of aliens—especially a woman. Interesting.

When her stomach growled, their eyes shot wide.

“When’s the last time you ate?”

Belatedly, she glanced at the soldier who’d spoken, lifting a shoulder in a shrug. Shuddering, he opened the door to say, “Bring her something to eat.Hurry.”

He shut the door and stared at her with a nervous smile. Her lips twitched up in an attempt to mirror his expression.

Where was Caligher?

That question made her smile drop, which made his slip off. The two men studied her constantly, unnervingly. Her eyes darted around the room for a computer, and she shot to her feet to walk to the nearest one.

Screw what the pirate said—her first order of business was finding Caligher. The dizzy spells renewed as she tilted and walked. Ah, those were back.

“Umm, miss?”

She felt the soldier’s eyes tracking her and wondered if he would stop her. He didn’t. She reached the terminal and attempted to log in. Her access was disabled. The screen informed her that this failed login attempt would be reported. She stared at it blankly, mind buzzing with murky fire.

She looked at the hovering soldier. “Can you log into it?”

His mouth dropped open, his brows squishing together in confusion. “I don’t think that’s allowed?”

“It is,” she said.

The other soldier cleared his throat loudly, shocking the soldier back into position beside the door. The man looked stiffly uncomfortable.

The door opened and boots scuffled across the carpet.

“Miss? We brought you dinner.”

Reluctantly, she separated from the terminal and sat at the table. The food hurt her stomach on its way down. The hunger intensified around the foreign sensation of something solid making its way through her belly, but she couldn’t stop swallowing mouthful after mouthful. One soldier stood nearby, staring at her with a queasy, hopeful expression. His nervousness made her blood spike with irrational emotions—like rage. A sense ofhow dare he, but she didn’t know what she was angry at him for. He’d done nothing but bring her food and see to her needs, yet his demeanor gave her the urge to lash out. She continued eating like a werewolf.

Thoughts ceased to exist. Shock crashed through her blood as if she’d crawled away from a car wreck with nothing but her skin and bones.

She wasn’t all there for a long time.

Until the nourishment of the meal finally worked its way through her system. She was in her dark, temporary bedroom, trying to sleep, when her thoughts came online and wouldn’t shut up.

Two soldiers were stationed at her door around the clock. Her access to the computer was denied.
