He—he was asking her?

She couldn’t form an answer. She didn’t think her voice would work if she tried. His hand looped around her wrist, holding it against her chest, just holding it. Holding her. His thumb traced the manacle and she felt that touch everywhere, down to the addictive soreness between her legs.

Her breath hitched loudly, prompting a laugh that caught in his throat.

“Not that you really have a choice,” he said.

“That’s not”—she cleared her throat—“that’s not right.” He really shouldn’t say those things to her, and she shouldn’t melt at first contact… but he was, and she did.

“Really?” he asked softly, continuously toying with the manacle. “In that case, I’m surprised you haven’t ripped these things off yet. You promised you would.”

Her heart thumped thunderously, no longer hitting the right tempo.

“I’ve been waiting for all these glorious escape attempts of yours,” he continued—he had her hair in his hand now, playing with her like he justcould—and god damn him but he could. “Your ship has fuel. You’ve had chances. But you just stayed here in bed as if—”

Her scratchy voice cut in. “Not running from you after last night.” Not after what he did to those Ternetzis. What if he ripped her ship open and murdered her? What if he caught up with her only to take it out on her in a very different way?

A quiver of need coursed through her, reminding her of their night together.

His laughter jolted against her back. “Good choice, but it could have been fun.”

“Would you have chased my ship?” Her voice was strained and paper thin.

“Oh yes.”

Her knees sort of buckled and she sagged, ever-so-slightly, in his grip. Just imagining it nearly had her on the floor.

He unzipped her jumpsuit down to the dip of her collarbone, far enough to peel the fabric back and bare her shoulder. It was enough that her body stopped cooperating with her, and started cooperating with him. Holding her wrists to her chest, his mouth slid down her neck.

“Everything you say is wrong,” she whispered, trembling at the sensation of his mouth over her skin.

He planted kisses, ignoring her words. His fist wove into her hair, his lips poising at the juncture of her shoulder.

Suddenly he struck.

His teeth clamped down so hard she saw stars. She cried out and lurched. She couldn’t keep her legs straight while he was biting down.

God.

Her hips ground into his and she wished he would cross some lines, take this too far. She wished he would take everything until she never had to think about the broken universe waiting outside. Now that he’d accused her of wanting it, that temptation was firmly imprinted on her psyche.

He applied firm, stinging pressure until her toes twisted on the floor and she collapsed against him in a breathless heap. His tongue lapped over the stinging indents lazily, and she moaned. She melted in his arms completely. She wasthisclose to coming.

“Oh shit, you bruise easily,” he suddenly cursed. All that smugness vanished in the face of concern as if he’d just realized he could hurt her.

“Cal, it’s okay…”

“But the bruise—”

“Listen, I’m like one of the whiniest people you will ever meet. I will let you know if you hurt me.” When they had some time—once she wasn’t mortified by the act—she was going to have to talk to him about these things. Limits. Sex.

How often would he want to do it, she wondered. Now, again, her body whispered.

She heard his swallow. He lightly brushed the bite mark and the pain-pleasure combo resonated deeper. She tilted her head into his chest, relinquishing control. Her body was an inferno and she couldn’t think about the ship, the Aerinus, or the fact that he was pretending he’d abducted her.

Caligher zipped her suit to her throat and stepped away, leaving her blindly staring out the window as he finished getting ready. Within minutes he was ushering her out into the complex.

She followed him to the garage in a daze. Morwong gave them a breakdown of the changes made and costs. Her computer was restored. And Morwong insisted she would sleep soundly with the new safety measures.
