He doesn’t even look up from his book. “Bathrooms are for customers only.”

“Oh, come on!” I say as I bounce around. “I’d expect this in the city, but I thought people in the country are supposed to be nice!”

“It’s not worth arguing over,” Elias says as he tosses some bills onto the counter. “We’ll take a room.”

“Where did you get that?” I ask in shock. The man is shirtless and barefoot, wearing only a pair of exercise shorts. Unless… Did he keep it in—?

“It was in the storage compartment of the bike,” he says as the man rings us up and hands over a key.

“Oh,” I say with my cheeks blushing as I grab it.

“You’re on the second floor,” the jerk-head receptionist says. “Second door on the right.”

There’s an elevator, but I have to go so badly that I race up the stairs and burst into the room.

Elias waits in the hall.

I stop before I slip into the bathroom.

“You can come too,” I say to him.

He walks in with a smoldering look in his eyes and slowly closes the door.

ChapterEight

Ava

“I’m in a hotel room with a man,” I whisper as I stare at my shocked face in the mirror.

Of course, being in the same room as a man was always going to be the inevitable conclusion of tonight after being auctioned off, but it’s still shocking now that it’s happening for real.

I swallow hard as I look at the makeup on my face. It’s beautiful, but it’s not really me. None of this is. I pull the pins out of my hair and shake it free.

If anything is going to happen here, I want it to happen with the real me, not with this fake persona that I can’t possibly keep up.

After my hair is hanging loose, I wash the makeup off my face with water and soap. I wipe my cheeks and eyes with the towel until my familiar face is looking back at me in the mirror.

I hope I’m enough for him…

With a deep breath, I head into the room with my stomach churning and find him sitting on the bed.

He looks up at me and stares in awe, like I’m the most stunning girl he’s ever seen. Like I’m even more beautiful than before.

“Wow,” he whispers under his breath. “You’re incredible, Ava. I didn’t realize you were so beautiful under all that makeup. I mean…” He closes his eyes and shakes his head like he screwed up. “Not that you weren’t beautiful before, it’s just… Look at you. Wow.”

He keeps staring at me with those gorgeous hazel eyes and I just have to kiss him. I march over, straddle his big body—my torn gown hiking up my thighs—and crush my lips to his, kissing him so hard I practically shove my tongue down his throat.

He doesn’t seem to mind in the least. His big arms wrap around me and he holds me tight as he kisses me back.

“I waited for you,” he says between kisses. “I’d wait a lifetime for you.”

I stop and look into his shimmering eyes as heat blooms inside of my chest. “What do you mean? You’ve never…?”

He shakes his head as he stares at me.

“With anyone?”

“Never. Not even a kiss.”
