And when I ate off a plate with my tongue like a damned animal, he grinned proudly and told me that I was one of them now.

A hellhound.

It was surreal.

When the time tomake a decision came, I reluctantly agreed to stay with him for a few days while he caught up on rest. He seemed relieved by the idea, and thanked me before he finished cleaning up my messes, and then went to sleep.

Since there was only the one bed, I reluctantly curled up next to him on it. When I fell asleep in my hellhound form, for the first time in over a year and a half, I slept peacefully.

A week passed similarly.

Priel cooked and cleaned. He fed me, and rubbed my head.

I was starting to feel like his dog—or his mate.

I wasn’t sure which option appealed to me more, so I refused to consider either of them.

But I couldn’t shift back, which left me with zero alternative options.

Most of the time, honestly, we both slept. I hadn’t realized how behind on sleep I was after so many months of nightmares and sex dreams, and the peacefulness that accompanied sleeping in my hound form was addictive.

Almost as addictive as Priel’s near-constant grins, jokes, and the feel of his arm draped over my body while we slept.

And his scent?

Now that I’d shifted, I knew exactly what Priel’s packmates had been talking about when they said that someone smelled attractive, or right for them.

With nearly every inhale, I was reminded how good the man had tasted. He was like a can of damn Febreeze made just for me, and it was intoxicating.

After that weekhad gone by, Priel looked significantly more relaxed, and I followed him out of the cave. I didn’t even have to climb in my hound form; just jumped right the hell out. It was epic.

And the run was incredible.

Priel’s pack ran with us. They seemed to have gotten over everything that happened with Clevv, which was a relief.

Priel ran at my side, and the rest of them circled us like they were protecting me. Clevv was kept as far from me as possible—which Priel made sure of every time he shot a glare over his shoulder.

It was a long, long run, but I honestly had the time of my life.

When we reachedthe Stronghold and the masses of fighting fae around it, I howled a sad goodbye to the rest of the pack, and they howled back to me. I noticed Priel still eyeing Clevv, but ignored him.

The hot blond wasn’t really into me, after all.

The group of gathered fae only came close until they caught a whiff of my changing scent. Then, a whole bunch of them started breaking off, leaving.

Maybe those were the ones who had thought my smell was the most appealing.

Priel shifted and knocked on the Stronghold’s door when we were in the clear, none of the fighting fae charging toward us and none of his pack within sight. Mare pulled it open a few minutes later, and frowned when she looked between me and Priel.

“Is that…” she began.

“It’s North.” His fingers stroked the fur on my head, and I tried to force myself not to nuzzle up against his side. It was more difficult than I would’ve liked.

“Come in, hurry.” She gestured us inside, then hastily closed the door without looking at any of the fighting fae. “What happened? Why didn’t they attack you?”

He smirked. “North decided to spend a little more time with me so our scents would merge.”

Her eyes widened, and she looked down at me.
