Oh.

I took a step back, giving him permission. He had a point about the flames; after being constantly on fire over the last week and a day or two, I felt clean, despite running through the forest for so long.

His body was engulfed in flames for a long moment, before the fire died. Then, the man crossed the bathroom again. He looked clean and fresh, and his white-blond hair was even spiked up all pretty-like.

He was hot as hell.

Why he was the one calling meGorgeous, I didn’t know. It didn’t feel like he was mocking me, though. At least not completely. Maybe that was why it pissed me off so much though; because I didn’t believe he meant it completely when he called me that.

“I’m going to make you something to eat,” he told me, stroking my head again. “Do you want to stay in here or cook with me?”

I scowled at him, pointing toward the bed with my nose. It was still smoking slightly.

“We’ll bring some jilui petals back next time we leave; they’re the easiest to find of the plants that make our homes fireproof.” He scratched me behind my ears lightly.

I shook off his hand, earning a chuckle as I stalked into the middle of the room, where I wouldn’t put anything in danger.

He left the space without a backward glance at me, and I collapsed on the tile with a huff.

Why did I have to be so damn attracted to him? Why couldn’t I just let it go? The more time I spent with him, the more I was going to want the bastard, and the last thing I needed was to want him more. My dreams were bad enough already.

Though I considered grabbing some paint and covering the bits and pieces of the paintings that could clue Priel in to my dreams about him, I shot the idea down.

All that would do was make him curious, and something told me I wasn’t going to be able to hide the truth from him if he really decided he was going to figure it out.

I shut my tired eyes, and after a while, managed to fall asleep. Shortly afterward, I woke up to eat, and then went back to bed.

Thankfully, since I was still in my hound form, I didn’t dream.

When I woke up,my slightly-disoriented gaze caught on Priel. He was sprawled out on the floor beside me, his massive form looking way too at-ease in my space. I stared at him for much longer than I probably should’ve, struck by the image before me.

He was gorgeous.

So ridiculously gorgeous.

I really needed to move past this obsession.

But how was I supposed to move past something I had dreamed about so many times?

Especially now that he’d kissed me the way he had, and touched me, and…

Shit.

I was screwed.

The urge to paint hit me hard, but I needed hands. My body would need to change. The desire to do so was strong enough to take my breath away, and then suddenly, my body sort of stretched.

I felt myself shifting forms, and relief rolled through me when my bare face met the warm tile I’d been sleeping against. My fireproof tank and shorts were still on, so I wasn’t naked.

Easing myself to a seated position, I studied the man on the floor beside me for a few more minutes.

Having him in there with me was seriously messing with my sanity. The whole room would smell like him when he left, and I’d have to figure out a way to clean it, and—

Shit, I needed to get out of there.

I stood up swiftly and crossed the room, carefully opening the door and slipping out.

Mare was sitting on the couch, and she flashed me a quick smile.
