They were everywhere.

Men, encircling me.

Fae with intense eyes, touching me. Not intimately, but still touching me.

“Back off,” I finally breathed, struggling the panic that had swelled in my chest.

Confrontation—I was not good with it. Not at all. Sure, I could snarl and growl with the best of them when I felt safe or even safeish, but when I was clearly outgunned?

Panic.

Lots of panic.

I pushed the guy’s palm away from my face with a shaky hand, but his lips only curved upward with interest as he withdrew it.

Fucking hell.

What was I supposed to do?

“Vevol has chosen a female,” the man who had touched my face mused. “Clevv was right.”

Clevv?

Had that bastard noticed my brands while we were kissing?

Had he told someone about—

One of my markings caught my eye, and I froze.

Fuck.

My body stilled when I realized what had just happened.

I had gone outside, into the middle of the fighting.

With my many brands exposed.

Priel had told me they would put me in danger, but that hadn’t crossed my mind when I woke up and started panicking.

And now?

Well, I was fucked.

Hopefully not literally.

Unless the blond hellhound bastard was involved, because—

Shit, I needed to stop thinking about him.

What the hell was wrong with me?

I forced my terrified, scattered mind to focus.

There had to be a way to get all of the men to back off long enough for me to get away.

But if the brands really marked me as more powerful than the other women, or something along those lines, then I didn’t know if that was even possible.

The sound of flapping wings distracted me, and then a massive phoenix was spiraling down toward me.
