“I’ll wake him up, and he’ll figure out a way to break me out of here.”
She smiled. “I’ll let Lian and January know where you’re headed so they can meet up with you too.”
“Thanks.” I gave her a quick, if hesitant smile of my own. “I know I’ve been a nightmare to live with, and I’m sorry.”
She brushed a hand through the air. “We all understand. Always have. For some of us, this place is a miracle. For others, it’s a prison.” Her words were simple, but they made my throat swell up.
I jerked my head in a nod.
It had felt like a prison for too long. With the terrible dreams, and the lust for someone I’d never even really talked to, and…
Shit.
That was a lot to think about.
I pushed the thoughts away.
Things in Vevol were going to change for the better. I was going to make sure of it.
The door to my room crashed open, and I lifted my eyes to a wild-eyed Priel. His shoulders were tense, one of his fists burning as he looked around the room.
Our gazes collided, and his body relaxed instantly.
The fire on his hand went out, and he dragged it through his already-wild blond hair. “You scared the shit out of me.”
“Sorry.” I stood up as I apologized, mouthing a ‘thank-you’ to Mare. She only grinned in response.

When I reached him,he dragged me into his arms, closing the door behind me and then pinning me to it. His gigantic arms landed on the door above my head, his forehead tilting toward me. Mine leaned back, and he stopped when our lips were a breath away from each other.
“What were you doing, Polaris?”
Whew, my full name sounded a hell of a lot sexier coming from his lips than it ever had from anyone else’s.
“Mare and I came up with a plan,” I admitted, lifting my hands and placing them on his bare chest.
“What kind of plan?”
“The kind where I admit that I know I’m eventually going to agree to be your mate and convince you to run away with me in the middle of the night.”
His lips curved upward wickedly. “I like this plan already.”
“I figured.” I closed my eyes.
He surprised me by brushing his lips against mine, lightly, and then murmuring, “Continue.”
My eyes remained closed. I was enjoying the moment too much to open them. “You and I are going to sneak out tonight to find the unseelie queen. January and Lian will catch up and join us.”
Priel’s lips brushed against mine again. “I’d like this plan better if it didn’t include another couple.”
“The goal is to avoid a war so you don’t end up dead, remember? You can sacrifice a little alone time for the sake of your survival.”
He chuckled quietly. “I suppose.”
His lips brushed mine yet again.
I was enjoying the contact too much, and opened my eyes. “I’m not ready for us to become full-on mates yet, okay?”
