I sighed. “I should question that, but I really don’t want to.”

“Good.” He brushed his lips against my forehead before bending down and tugging me onto his back. I bit back a shriek as he stood smoothly, my arms wrapping around his neck.

“I am way too old for a piggy-back ride,” I whisper-complained to him as he strode out of the room.

“When you get to be as ancient as me, you realize you’re never too old for anything that you find fun,” he whispered back.

I grimaced. “Don’t remind me how old you are.”

He snorted. “Alright.”

He padded down the hallway—I waved at Mare as we passed the living room—and then stopped at a wall at the hallway’s end that I was certain was just a wall. Reaching up to the place it met the ceiling, he paused for a moment.

Suddenly and silently, the wall slid down, opening up to the forest.

I gawked.

Secret entrance.

The younger version of me who was obsessed with Harry Potter would’ve squealed.

The older, jaded version of me only squealed on the inside.

Priel stepped outside, then placed his hand back on the wall. His magic kicked in, and it slid shut once again.

I watched in awe until he spun us around and began to jog silently into the forest. The way he could run without making a sound was incredibly impressive.

When I opened my mouth to ask him how the secret door’s magic worked, he reached back and put a hand to my mouth, covering it.

Shit.

Right.

There were probably fae on the other side of the Stronghold, camped out and waiting to see what happened next. Or possibly fighting, even after my threat.

We needed to be quiet.

Good thing Priel was there, because I was absolutely not stealthy on my own.

Priel picked up the pace as we got further from the other fae.

When he’d been running for half an hour or so, he finally shifted. A shiver ran down my spine and an electric shock sizzled over my skin as his form stretched and changed. My whole body seemed to relax as I draped over his extremely-solid back, my arms still looped around his neck but no longer connecting at the middle.

The forest seemed to fly around us, and my eyelids grew heavy as it did. Falling asleep on the back of a hellhound probably wasn’t the smartest thing I’d ever do, but I hadn’t gotten around to sleeping that night, so I was exhausted.

Priel’s fire curled over my skin as if whispering to me that he had me, and slowly, my eyes shut and I drifted off.

Delicious heat engulfed me.

A gasp escaped me, and my fingers dug into the sheets on the bed.

Priel’s bed, in a cave I hadn’t been to; I recognized the feel and smell of it from my past dreams.

His hands were wrapped around my ass and thighs, spreading me wide for him as I sat on his face, rocking and panting and making noises I’d only ever made in my dreams of us.

His teeth caught my clit, and an orgasm cut through me so sharply I almost screamed. My body trembled, pleasure burning me whole.

Fire blazed around us without burning the sheets or bed. I couldn’t tell whether it was mine or Priel’s—and it didn’t matter.
