“Of course. You can have all the time you need.”

When he stretched a hand out toward me, I slipped mine inside it. There was no way I was getting around that shit, and I was much more willing to hold his hand than let him kiss me.

“What are we doing?” I asked him, hoping he would believe that I considered us a team.

“Going home, of course.” He slid his fingers between mine, and I fought the nausea that followed.

We were going to be fine.

I hoped so, at least.

“What about Priel and Ervo?” My voice stayed even.

“We’ll have to keep them chained until you and I are mated and Mare has chosen one of my brothers, of course,” he said easily.

Of course.

If my stomach wasn’t empty, I would’ve retched.

“There’s plenty of space to do so back at home,” he promised, like that was supposed to reassure me.

It obviously didn’t.

I stayed quiet as he led me the rest of the way out of the cave. He moved through it much more slowly than Priel had, but I would’ve gone at a snail’s pace if it meant he didn’t put his hands on me.

We finally made it out of the cave twenty minutes later.

My eyes stung when I surveyed the scene outside the entrance.

Ervo and Priel were on their knees, both men bruised and actively bleeding. Priel was slouched over, clearly unconscious, and Ervo was staring at the man in front of me with so much fury that I wondered if Clevv would combust.

Then again, it wouldn’t hurt him even if he did.

We were all creatures of fire, after all.

Mare was wrapped in the arms of one of the other hellhounds. She looked somewhere between furious and terrified, but relief filled her eyes when she saw me.

Neither of us spoke, though.

What was there to say?

We had both beencapturedby an insane asshole who had decided I was going to be his, and that Mare was going to mate with one of the other hounds.

“Get the phoenix in the sky again, with your claws to his throat and to the dragon girl’s too,” Clevv commanded the hound holding Mare, and the four behind Priel and Ervo.

The man holding Mare bristled, just slightly. I side-eyed Clevv, trying to decide whether or not he had noticed. He hadn’t.

Clevv seemed to think he had some sort of power over the rest of them. I wasn’t sure where said power was coming from, but there was one thing I was sure about.

The seelie faehatedbeing controlled.

And if I could play along long enough, and maybe nudge the idea that he was acting like he was in charge, then I could probably get the other fae working with him to realize they didn’t like him any more than I did.

If I could dothat, there was a good chance I could get Mare and myself away from them.

And if Mare and I got away, Priel and Ervo would have no reason to play nice.

Then, hell would break loose.
