So I said nothing.

“I need to feed you,” he mumbled to himself, raking a hand through his hair as he strode toward the small, fae-style kitchen on the other side of the room.

There wasn’t anywhere to sit other than his bed, since his home was shaped the same as Priel’s. I wasn’t going anywhere near the damned bed, so I scooted the two feet between myself and the wall, then turned my back to the stone. Sitting up like that, I could see the entirety of the cave and was ready for an attack.

He started cooking, and I carefully watched the spices he put into the food. I knew there was at least one questionable spice in Vevol, but where there was one, there were usually more. The one I knew about, the men had said made your parts swell and tingle a bit, and would lead to hours of pleasure.

With the right partner, that sounded crazy hot. I’d seen the future version of Priel use it on the future version of me enough times to be hella turned-on when I thought about it outside of Clevv’s cave.

But as far as food went, I didn’t know what that spice would look like or taste like if it was put inside something. So, knowing that it existed made me extremely reluctant to touch any food that Clevv was making.

He hadn’t had a problem hurting Mare, so why would he have a problem with drugging me to get his way?

My eyes flicked to the divider over the entrance to the cave, and I let myself hope that Priel was waking up and would be breaking in and rescuing my ass in the near future.

Because if he didn’t, something told me I might end up with another set of scars to match the ones I earned the last time I had to escape from some bastard who thought he could do whatever the hell he wanted to me.

Thirteen

Priel

A waveof ice-cold water jerked me out of sleep.

“What the hell?” I growled, rubbing at my eyes with the back of my arm as my fire burned away the chill immediately.

“Your female has been taken, brother,” Ervo’s low voice had my body going still.

My mind returned to the forest.

The betrayal of the pack I had considered my family.

Clevv’s hands on North’s skin.

His insistence that she was his.

Her, asking me to drink the poison.

I was on my feet a heartbeat later, snarling and looking around the area.

We had returned to the pack’s land, apparently.

Mare and Ervo stood near me, with a large bucket that I assumed had held ice-water a minute earlier sitting on the ground between them.

My packmates were in a small group off to the side.

I wanted their heads removed from their bodies.

But I had bigger shit to worry about, and I didn’t know if any of them had actually done anything that deserved dying over.

I glowered at Bovay, knowing he would answer even if I was a risk to his life. “Where the fuck is Clevv?”

“He took North into his cave, and blocked off the entrance.”

Curses spewed from me.

I started to pace.

We all wanted the privacy that came with being able to close ourselves into our homes. We’d designed our caves to be impenetrable when we wanted them to be.
