“Polaris, I need you in my arms,” I growled into the air, body tensing and preparing for a fight.

The space in front of me shimmered, and then North was on her ass in that space, falling backward as if whatever she’d been leaning against had up and vanished.

I was on my knees, holding her upright, in a heartbeat.

She stared at me in shock for a few moments.

And then, she threw her arms around me.

Her grip was hard and desperate.

Her body was soft, and shaking.

But she was there.

And she was safe.

“You’re okay?” she demanded, leaning away from me and looking me up and down.

“No. But you’re here, and that’s what matters.” I cupped her face, pressing my forehead to hers. She clung to me, the shaking in her body only seeming to grow more pronounced.

“We need to seal the mating bond. This can’t happen again,” North whispered, her voice quivering as much as she was.

“After I’ve ended Clevv’s life,” I agreed, standing up. I hauled her into my arms as I did so, and she buried her face against my neck.

“I can’t believe I forgot about using your name,” she whispered.

“It’s been a long few days.” I stroked her back lightly, cradling her like the precious, fragile thing she was. “And I prefer you not having to see me tear the head off of a man you kissed at one point.”

She shuddered, and I held her tighter.

“Mare and Ervo went to get food; they’ll be back soon. You’ll feel a little better with something in your belly.”

She made a noise of agreement that didn’t sound anywhere near certain, but I continued rubbing her back and holding her to me.

I had no plans to let go of her until Clevv came out of that hole.

The deaths of the traitors could wait.

Allof the fighting could wait.

Because my female was safe in my arms, and no one else would ever touch her again.

North

Priel had beengrowly and possessive before the abduction, but after? I wasn’t sure he was completely sane. He carried my exhausted butt around until he had to put me down so I could eat. Even then, he really didn’t want to let go of me, but I didn’t think he could physically sit still for long enough to hold me while I ate.

So I sat down and went to town on the delicious fresh fruit and vegetables Mare and Ervo had found—which Priel refused to do—and my hound paced.

There were flames blazing in his eyes, and while I knew that didn’t mean he was crazy or anything, it did mean that his emotions were sort of feral.

For the most part, I seemed to be into feral. But now, it had crossed into unhealthy territory.

Yes, I knew that Priel needed to confront Clevv.

They would fight.
