“Sunny was attracted to my body. I wanted a woman whose soul would speak to me.”

I crossed my arms over my chest. “And you think that’s me?”

“I think the way you hide your sadness with anger touches my fucking heart.”

His blunt words made me inhale sharply.

“And I think the way you keep your thoughts private until you’re ready to share them has wrapped itself around my filthy, ink-stained soul.” He covered the distance between us and wrapped his hands around my face, tilting my head back until our eyes met. “I didn’t want one of the playful females. I wanted the intense one who snarls at other bastards when they get too close. I wanted the woman with paint beneath her fingernails and crusted in her hair. The one who studied me when she thought I wasn’t looking, and hid paintings of my ink within her own art.”

“You didn’t know all of those things when we did the name drawing,” I countered.

“I didn’t need to.”

He lowered his face and slowly brushed his lips over mine. Mine responded, but he pulled away before I could intensify the kiss. “Having Clevv’s scent on your skin is making it extremely difficult to suppress the urge to throw you against the wall and fuck you, Polaris. I need you to get in the shower, now. Just burning away his touch isn’t enough; I want to scrub it from your skin.”

I extracted my hands from his. “I never said I wasn’t in favor of having sex against a wall.”

He caught my arm, his eyes narrowing. “How many times have you had sex that way?”

A snort escaped me.

Easy answer.

“None.”

His eyes heated. “How many times have you had sex, period?”

Well, now we were moving into dangerous territory.

I wasn’t sure how he’d react when he found out I was a virgin too.

Proud?

Worried?

Excited?

Even more possessive?

Really damn ready to have sex?

I didn’t know.

But I did know that I wouldn’t have his full attention until Clevv wasn’t a threat anymore, so I wasn’t about to proposition him. No way in hell was our first time going to be while he was listening for sounds that might mean my abductor was coming out of his hidey-hole.

“We’re not having this conversation right now,” I told him, stepping out of his grip and striding toward the bathroom.

“It’s that bad?” he growled, fury lining his voice.

I scoffed, turning on the shower.

Even if I had been with a bunch of guys, it shouldn’t matter to him. That was then, and this was now. My past was in my past, regardless of what I’d done back on Earth.

Then again, when the fae got possessive about that shit, they gotreallypossessive about it.

“I need the number, North.”

I stripped my tank over my head, ignoring his warning.
