Dots blush crept over her shoulders and down her arms.

“Alright, let’s get out of here,” Dots said, turning toward the wall.

I watched carefully as she walked up to it, putting her hands on the stone and closing her eyes.

One minute passed, and then another.

There was no sign that she was figuring anything out, but we waited.

Finally, there was a groaning noise, and an uneven crack appeared in the wall.

It slowly, slowly, widened.

Twenty minutes must’ve passed before it was finally large enough for one of us to fit through. A quick glance out the window showed that we had the complete attention from pretty much every visible man outside; the women were all busy collecting shit to sacrifice, or guarding the door.

I was sure they’d be pissed when they realized we were sneaking out, but screw them.

They’d locked us up.

“I can’t jump out of that thing,” Sunny hissed. “I don’t have wings, remember?”

“We can jump together. I should be able to shift fast enough to carry us both out of here, and I’m sure my hellhounds will follow us, so we’ll be fine.”

“Where are we going to go, though?” Dots asked, breathing rapidly after the effort of using her magic. “What if we get separated?”

“Then we meet at the old Stronghold,” Sunny said firmly. “Let’s do this. It’s risky, but it’s only a matter of time before the other women realize where we’re going and try to stop us. So… let’s scram.”

She was right.

“You first,” Dots told me.

Sunny wrapped her arms around my waist as we wormed our way through the crack in the wall. A sharp bit of stone sliced through the back of my thigh, making me wince, but I didn’t stop.

We were getting the hell out.

I waited on the ledge, letting my gaze skim the small crowd that had gathered below us and in the sky above us.

My chest swelled, and I realized what we had to do.

“Do you trust me?” I asked Sunny.

“As long as you get us away from these crazy chicks,” Sunny hissed. “I’m not ready to be anyone’s baby mama.”

Make that two of us.

“Agreed!” Dots called from behind us.

“Then we fly straight into that crowd, toward all of the men who look like seelies,” I said firmly.

The seelies wouldn’t let anyone control them, and hopefully, that meant they wouldn’t let anyone control us.

“If you say so,” Sunny grumbled.

She was plastered to my back, then, gripping me like a lifeline, so it was time.

I let out a slow breath, and jumped.

Time seemed to slow around me as my body elongated and transformed. Sunny shrieked as she struggled to hang on to my widening belly.
