I looked up at Ervo, and he leaned his head down so I could whisper to him.

“Which of them is winning?”

His eyes didn’t leave the fight, and he didn’t answer immediately. A few seconds passed before he murmured, “It’s an even match. Neither have sustained an injury that will slow them yet. When that happens, it will end quickly.”

Oh.

That made sense.

It took time for wounds to heal; a bad one would cause a delay, and a delay would give the other man a chance to take the victory.

Though Ervo’s ear was beside my lips, my next question went to his mind.“Do you think they both want to win?”

I didn’t know if he’d see through my question, but I’d explain if he asked.

“You still wonder about Sunny and Teris,”he said quietly.

“I do,”I admitted.

Ervo considered it, still watching the fight. I watched too, though I was still clueless as to what all was happening.

Clearly, I needed alotmore training.

“Teris hasn’t been pulling punches and doesn’t seem to plan on letting Nev win. Then again, Fovea is skilled enough to recognize it if he was, and would likely call off the fight. So I don’t know whether or not that means anything,”he murmured.“But when a fae male is certain about a female, he won’t consider fighting for the right to mate with another.”

“That’s what I thought.”And what Sunny seemed to think too.

The fight went on for another ten minutes.

Honestly, my adrenaline died down.

Both men were in their beast forms and nearly covered in dried blood, yet neither of them had made a significant enough dent in the other to end the fight. And—

Nev’s fangs finally scraped Teris’s throat.

The sabertooth lunged, but stumbled.

“Basilisk venom,”Ervo said to me.“A full bite can knock out a fae for an hour.”

Damn.

The stumble was the opening the basilisk needed, and Nev’s jaw clenched down on Teris’s shoulder.

The sabertooth bucked and fought until the second he hit the ground.

Cheers and roars rolled through the crowds around us, the adrenaline of the fight getting to the male and female fae around us. I didn’t cheer, though—and neither did North or January, from what I could tell.

Fovea’s eyes gleamed with excitement, and the group of female fae looked similarly thrilled by everything that had just gone down.

Nev shifted back, striding toward Fovea in his gigantic fae form, man-bun still on top of his head without a damn hair in place.

As soon as he reached her, he wrapped a hand around her waist, tugged her body to his, and kissed her.

More cheers went through the crowd—hoots and hollers, from both men and women.

The kiss turned into a makeout session, and the cheers only grew louder until Fovea finally stepped away, visibly flustered as she licked her swollen lips.

A satisfied Nev stepped up beside her, taking her hand. She was reluctant to give it to him at first, but when he slid his fingers between hers, she didn’t pull away or protest.
