“No, buts.” He raked his hand over his shaved head. “I got no fuckin’ clue what we got goin’ on here, but it’s something. I feel it, you feel it, and don’t bother tryin’ to deny it.” He shook his head. “You were already checking me out, even back in the day.”

“Well, I—”

“You said so yourself. Now you wanna take it back?”

“I—”

“Nah, nah, don’t—”

“Stop interrupting me.” Mandy pushed him, and his back slammed against the wall. “I know what I said, and you’re right, I did have a crush on you. Maybe I still do.”

“There’s that hellcat from the Rook.” A smirky grin covered his face. “All you need now is that red, hot-as-fuck dress.” Mamba dragged her close and dropped kisses along her shoulder and below her ear. She melded against him to keep from crashing onto the tile floor. He made his way to the cleft of her cleavage, and she gasped when he reached into the v-neck and kneaded her breast.

“I have a feeling you’ve been hiding that hellcat deep inside for a while.”

“Maybe.” How could a man she barely knew cause such delicious sensations to jet through her body? Mamba lowered his head and sucked her tender nipple between his lips.

“No ‘maybe’ about it. You’re stronger than you think, and this is much better than any fantasy.” He cupped Mandy’s ass, spread his legs, and lifted her until he had her right where he wanted. “Love having you in my arms.”

She wrapped her arms around Mamba’s neck and ground into him while he slipped his hand between them and fumbled with the tab of her jeans.

“You with me?”

“Yes, yes.” Mandy had obeyed Ajax’s rules of only dating men he approved and never listening to her own heart long enough. Her fantasy of being with Mamba stood inches from her, and all reasonable thoughts escaped her brain.

A loud banging echoed through the salon.

“Mandy?” A muffled woman’s voice filtered through the back door. “Are you in there?”

Mandy squirmed out of Mamba’s arms. He protested, but she pressed her forefinger against his lips. “Shush.” Then pushed him through the restroom door.

She unlocked the backdoor, and Lisa stormed in. “Why is the door locked?”

“Because I don’t like being here by myself.” That sounded logical.

“I left my phone on the front desk.” Lisa furrowed her brow. “Are you all right?”

She smoothed her hand over her hair. “Yes, yes, I’m fine.”

Lisa cocked her head at Mandy’s rushed response and proceeded to the front of the salon while Mandy willed herself to get it together.

“See you tomorrow.” Lisa returned with her phone, breezed out the door, and Mandy locked it behind her.

Mandy opened up the restroom door and faced Mamba’s scowl. “Why the fuck did you shove me in here?”

“That was Ajax’s girlfriend, Lisa. If she saw you here, she’d tell him.”

“And I told you I’m not afraid of her or Ajax.”

“But I am. And you should be too.”

“So, we’re gonna sneak around?” His scowl deepened. “That’s how we’re gonna do this?”

“And what exactly isthis?”

He rubbed at his jaw. “I don’t fuckin’ know, but it’s something.”
