“I wanted to tell you. I didn’t wanna just leave, but shit went bad and . . .” Mamba’s words faded away with the confusion of not telling her enough and wanting to tell her too much. He didn’t know where to start.

He glanced over her shoulder as Blaze and Ajax headed their way with scowls firmly in place.

“What the fuck is going on?” Ajax demanded, pushing Mandy to his side.

Obviously, she’d never told Ajax about them.

Blaze was mean muggin’ him, so Mamba called him out. “You better wipe that cocky-ass look off your face.”

“And if I don’t?” Blaze puffed out his chest, but Mamba still outsized him in height and width.

“You see what I did to that bastard in the cage?” Mamba stepped around Ajax. “Maybe you want some of that too.”

“Back off,” Ajax ordered Blaze, and the stupid fucker shut up. Then Ajax turned to Mamba. “Why are you talking to her?” He jutted his chin at Mandy.

Mandy pushed her way between them. “This has nothing to do with you.”

Her petite frame sandwiched between him and Ajax made Mamba smirk— happy she was standing up for herself.

“You think this is funny?” Ajax glared at Mamba.

“I think this is between me and Mamba and nothing to do with you.” Mandy stood her ground, and Mamba’s smile widened. “I’ll meet you outside. In five minutes.”

Ajax ground his teeth, threw Mamba the fisheye, nodded to Blaze, and they stepped off.

“How long have you been here?” Mandy asked.

“It’s a long fuckin’ story, but Cobra thought it would be better if I left Vegas for a while.” Even though it was the worst idea ever.

“Because of me?” She cocked her head and gazed into his eyes, making it impossible for him to lie.

“Yes and no.”

“Because you got arrested again, and that was totally on me.” She mashed her lips together. “That’s why you just left without telling me.”

“Nah, not true. I didn’t care about all that, but I’ve been locked up before, and Cobra saw it as just another screw-up. Plus, he didn’t want any blowback from your brother and the Marauders.”

“How long do you have to stay here?”

Mamba shrugged, then shot a look over his shoulder, knowing he had to get back to Razor’s office.

“And if you don’t do as Cobra says?”

“I lose my colors.” She furrowed her brow. “I’m outta the Serpents for good, and they yank my patch.”

Mandy huffed out a breath and shook her head. “You men and your rules. Just like my brother. You claim you want to be free and not let anyone tell you what to do, but in the end, your rules are the strictest.”

Mandy jerked her head over her shoulder like talking about Ajax would make him appear at any minute.

“Not much different than how you obey your brother even though you’re a grown woman.”

Her back stiffened. “Completely different.”

“Not really. The Serpents are my brothers, and yeah, right now I’m pissed at them, but they’re still my family.”

She darted another look over her shoulder. He hated the way Ajax controlled her.

“I have to leave,” she said the words, but she didn’t move away from him.
