Mamba's heart pounded hard against his ribs as his head spun with questions.

The brunette giggled again and draped herself over Mamba’s shoulder just as Mandy sprang from the chair and bolted for the door.

“Where’s she going?” Bebe flopped down on the bed and shimmied out of her skirt.

Mamba slammed the whiskey bottle on the table, then yelled down the hall after Mandy, but she didn’t stop. He yanked at his jeans to keep them from falling off his hips, then spun back into the room.

“What the fuck?” The brunette was going down on Bebe. “You two gotta go.”

“But we just got here,” Bebe whined as she and the brunette tried to pull him onto the bed.

Mamba hoisted them off the bed and practically pushed them out the door. They protested while scrambling for their clothes, but he slammed the door and then headed in the other direction to catch Mandy before she reached the parking lot.

He took off in a run as he fastened his jeans with his belt buckle slapping his thigh. “Mandy, wait.” He caught up to her just as she reached the back door.

She released the latch, and he slapped his hand against it before she could pull it open.

“Don’t go.” He turned her to face him.

She stood before him very still, and very quiet.

“How’d you get in here? How’d you . . .?” Mamba forced himself to focus, but his confusion had nothing to do with the slugs of Jack floating through his bloodstream.

“You didn’t have to leave those other women.”

“Yeah, I really did.” He caged her in so she couldn’t pull another runner. “Can’t believe you’re here.”

“I can see that.” Her lips quirked into a weak smile.

“Nah, they don’t mean anything.” He waved his arm in their direction. “Shit, I don’t even know their names.”

“I’m not sure if that should make me feel better or worse.”

“Don’t go. Come back to my room.” She wavered slightly, and he added. “Let me at least explain.”

She drew in a deep breath, then nodded.

He guided her back down the hall to his room, keeping a firm hand on the small of her back.

Mandy flung her arm toward his door. “You really should lock your door.”

“Got nothing worth stealing.”

They entered his room, and thank fuck, Bebe and the brunette didn’t reappear. He closed the door and motioned for her to sit in the chair.

“I was pissed about you not showing up for the fight, then I got some bad news, and I was all twisted up.”

“You looked pretty happy to me.”

“It’s what I do when things fall to shit. I usually make a situation worse.”

“I should go.” Mandy stood. “This was a mistake.”

“Don’t go.” He blocked her way, then held her shoulders, hoping to steady her.

“You obviously weren’t expecting me to be here.” She peered up at him with her huge chocolate brown eyes, and his heart shifted.

“You’re right, I wasn’t expecting you in my room, but I was hoping you’d be at the fight.”
