He eased Mandy down to the towel, then spooned behind her, stroking her back and soothing her as she melded against him. Their ragged breathing filled the silence as the sun warmed their skin. They lay like that for quite a few minutes until her breathing quieted.

Mamba pushed the hair away from her face and placed kisses on her neck. “You all right?”

“Much better than all right.” She stretched out, and he thought of the sleekest panther in the jungle.

He smoothed his hand over her thigh. “Yeah, fuckin’ unbelievable, but every time gets better and better.”

“I guess that’s the way it’s supposed to be, right?”

“Not always. Mostly, I’m out after the first time.”

Mandy’s back stiffened, and he wanted to shove the words back in his mouth. Once again, he let the words in his brain spill out of his mouth.

“Sorry, I just meant that usually, one shot is enough with most women.”

She tilted her head to look at him. “You do realize you’re making this worse, right?”

“I got no goddamn filter. I get it. It’s gotten me in a shit-load of trouble.”

“I can imagine.”

“But you get what I’m trying to say, right?”

“That you’ve had a lot of one-night stands?”

“Well, yeah, but what I mean is—I want it to be more than once. I can’t get enough of you.”

“I get it.” She laughed. “I imagine it must be hard getting rid of them after you take them on this beautiful boat.”

Mamba jack-knifed into a sitting position. “I never took any other women on this boat.”

She furrowed her brow.

“I’m not bullshitting you. It’s the truth.”

“Then how come Lenny had everything all ready for you?”

“I told you I called him earlier and let him know what I wanted. That’s why he razzed me when we first got here.”

“So, I’m the first woman you ever took on this boat?”

“Yeah, you’re the first. Ask Lenny when we get back to the marina.”

“I believe you. I just can’t—”

“I know you don’t get it yet, but you’re special to me. Very special. I don’t know where the fuck we’re headed, but I hope it's forward.”

A breeze blew across the deck, and Mandy shivered. “Here.” Mamba handed her his t-shirt. “Slide this on. Not ready for you to get dressed yet.”

Mandy held up the huge shirt. “This will cover me more than my clothes.”

“Yeah, but all I have to do is slip my hands underneath to feel that soft skin of yours.”

“You’re unbelievable.”

Mamba stood, then dragged on his jeans.

“Gotta love a man who goes commando.”
