Ajax spun around, faltered, and braced himself against the wall. “The fuck?”

Mandy used the distraction to scramble away from him, although she didn’t come to Mamba’s side either.

“What are you doing here?” Mandy clutched the duffel in front of her as if warding off both of them.

“I came here to warn him.” Mamba jerked his chin at Ajax.

“Warn me?” Ajax sneered.

“That’s right. The Serpents would’ve been happy to beat your ass and dump it at the Arizona border, but Samson and his guys from New York want you gone—as in forever.”

Mandy gasped, and Ajax’s eyes widened and then narrowed. He was wasted for sure, but Mamba’s words penetrated his stoned brain.

“Bullshit, this is some kinda setup.”

“For once, just listen to what I’m telling you.”

“Why the fuck would you come here and warn me? I’d think you’d be happy if somebody smoked me.”

“Gotta admit, it would be sweet, but for some fuckin’ reason, your sister wants you alive.”

Mandy’s eyes followed the conversation like a spectator at a tennis match.

“Get the fuck outta my house.” Ajax waved him away, stormed toward Mandy, ripped the duffel out of her arms, and threw it by the stairs. “And you, unpack that shit, 'cause you ain’t goin’ nowhere.”

“You better dial it down,” Mamba warned.

“Who the fuck do you think you are coming in here telling me what to do?”

“I’m trying to save your sorry ass if you’d just hear what I’m saying.”

Mandy grabbed her brother’s arm. “Ajax, I think he’s telling the truth.”

“Of course you do.” He pushed her off. “He’s been fuckin’ you stupid for the last few weeks.”

“Please,” Mandy pleaded.

“Telling you shit, lying to you, turning you against me, against your family.”

Mandy’s gaze skittered to Mamba, then back to Ajax. “That’s not true.”

“What’s not true? Him turning you against your family, or him sticking his dick in you?”

“You better watch your fuckin’ mouth.” Mamba crossed the room, but Mandy stepped between them. Great, his spit-fire of a woman stepping between two outlaws.

“And what are you gonna do about it?” Ajax sneered, then grabbed Mandy and slammed her into the chair. “Whoring yourself out to him, you’re nothing but a fuckin’ slut.” He raised his hand, and Mandy cowered.

“Touch her, and I’ll shoot you myself.” Mamba’s low growl froze Ajax in place as he slowly turned and stared at the barrel of Mamba’s .45.

“Noooo,” Mandy wailed, clambering off the side of the chair.

Ajax focused on the gun. “You’re not gonna shoot me in front of her.”

“Touch her again and find out.” Mamba moved closer to Ajax. “This is your last warning to get the fuck outta here now. I don’t care where you go or how you get there—just get gone. And keep going until you’re outta Nevada. Maybe you’ll get lucky, and they’ll stop looking for you, or maybe they won’t. Either way, I don’t ever wanna see you in this state again.”

Ajax stared at him for a few long seconds, and something must’ve registered because he shot Mandy a look, scooped up his keys, and fled out the back door. The wheels of his car screeched against the cement as he peeled out of the driveway.

Mamba heaved a breath and lowered the gun to his side. “Are you all right?”
