Although the steamy, salacious dreams she had all weekend seemed to suggest otherwise. Yikes, now Lisbeth was getting rattled by Willow’s opinion, a woman who never missedTheBachelorand read romance books nonstop. Who believed in dreams anyway?

“I just think you should be sure before making a huge decision in three months.”

“You’re getting as bad as Juliet, but neither of you knows all Edward’s good qualities, the things that make him perfect for me—his commitment to his job, his loyalty, and his dependability.”

“Great, you’re marrying a boy scout.” Willow pulled a goofy face. “Does he recite that oath in bed with a little two-finger salute?”

“I’ll have you know Edward is totally capable in the bedroom.”

“Capable?” Willow bugged out her eyes. “That sounds exciting. My dishwasher is capable.”

“I refuse to discuss—”

“Oh, my goodness, what a surprise.” Evelyn’s voice rose, then she giggled. “Lisbeth, you have a visitor,” she called from the outer office.

Edward strode into her office two seconds later, and Lisbeth’s heart skipped a beat, then a flush of heat surrounded her neck like she’d been caught in some precarious position.

“Edward, what are you doing here?” She pushed away from her desk and met him halfway with a brief kiss.

“I came to surprise you. Plus, I was curious to see what’s been keeping you in this desert town.”

Edward’s calm voice was just what she needed after the unsettling conversation with Willow. His easy charm reminded Lisbeth a lot of her father before his business went bankrupt, and her world came crashing down around her ears.

“I’ll leave you two alone.” Willow rose from her chair and edged out of the office, making faces behind Edward’s back like a child on the playground.

Edward wheeled around, taking in her office space. “Much, much smaller than what you have in LA.”

“My main office will always stay in LA. This is just a secondary location.”

Edward pursed his lips together and nodded his head. “I see.”

“Really, why are you here, and why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”

I would’ve made sure I wasn’t talking about an old lover two seconds before you arrived.

“Father wanted me to join him for a meeting with a potential client, and I hoped we could fit in an early dinner before I fly back.” Even after two years, Lisbeth marveled at how easy travel became owning a private plane. Edward had grown up that way, but she doubted she’d ever take such conveniences for granted.

“That would be perfect.” And just what she needed to eradicate all thoughts of her past.

“I also wanted to make sure we were all set for the weekend. I’ve made arrangements for you to fly to LA early Saturday morning. I’ll pick you up, and then we’ll drive along the coast to Newport Beach.”

“Sounds perfect.” Most of Edward’s suggestions sounded perfect: private jets, catered dinners, sometimes with celebrities.

“My father is very excited about receiving this award from the governor, so everything must go accordingly. The dress code will be country club casual. Dressy, but not too excessive.”

“Perfect. I’m looking forward to it.”

“I can always depend on you to look perfect.” Edward gazed into her eyes and placed a kiss on her cheek. “Let me finish this business, and then I’ll pick you up at six.”

“Perfect. See you then.” Lisbeth admired the leisurely way his khakis and polo fit his slim build and personality. All he needed was a golf club like in those Ralph Lauren commercials.

Three seconds after Edward left the office, Willow was back with a pissy face. “Did I actually hear him telling you how to dress?”

“Were you eavesdropping?”

“Of course, and I couldn’t believe my ears. He’s approving your wardrobe now? There is no one more impeccably dressed than you.”

“He’s just nervous about the weekend. His father is getting a very prestigious award from the governor.”
