“Although I will say Ecstasy is a step above. Shit, I worked in places where you couldn’t get in the john 'cause somebody would be fuckin’ their brains out in there.”

Naturally, Madeline’s words sparked her addled brain with visions of Samson hoisting her onto the ladies’ room counter, spreading her legs wide, and grabbing her ass as he—”

“Are you there, hun?”

“Yes.” Lisbeth wiped the bead of sweat from her forehead. “I’m sorry. You broke up there for a minute.”

“I was just sayin’ all we need is some entertainment other than strippers. I run a catering business, so we’re covered with food, and we can use the DJ from the club, but Rattler’s old lady doesn’t wanna spend the entire night seeing her man getting lap dances all night.”

“I understand.”

“So, maybe you can come up with something the guys will like, and the woman won’t lose their shit over.”

“I might have an idea, but let me check it out before moving forward.”

“I knew you’d come up with something.”

Madeline gave Lisbeth the date, time, and estimated attendance. The party would be in three weeks with plenty of notice to get everything organized. She’d done much more in less time for her demanding LA clients, but she loved the rush and excitement of getting a party together.

“I think I have everything I need, and I’ll keep you updated with all the details.”

“You’re the best—and I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks so.”

“Excuse me?”

“C’mon, you can’t fool me. I could tell when we barged in on you and Samson last weekend.”

“You could tell what?” Lisbeth’s heart rate increased by half.

“If we hadn’t come trooping in like a herd of wild horses, you and that gorgeous man would’ve been getting down and dirty on that leather couch.”

“Madeline!”

“Honey, you don’t have to put on for me. Me and Boa have done it in every place you can imagine and some you probably can’t … like the time he hauled me onto—”

“Samson and I are just business associates.” Lisbeth interrupted before Madeline went any further.

“Ha, does he know? 'Cause I gotta tell you, girl, he was eye fuckin’ you so hard I thought Boa was gonna hand him a rubber.”

“That’s ridiculous.”

“Well, he wasn’t the only one. I saw you giving him some sneaky looks yourself. Not that I blame you. I mean, there’s nobody like Boa, but Samson is one good-looking man. You’d have to be dead not to notice.”

“Sorry, but no.” Shit, and here Lisbeth thought she covered her feelings so well. Apparently, not.

“You and Samson didn’t—”

“I’m engaged to be married in three months.”

“Shit!”She huffed out a breath. “Well, that sucks. Here I thought you and him had a thing. I mean, his office was practically vibrating with sexual energy. I felt like I needed a cigarette, and I quit smoking a year ago.”

“Sorry, there is no me and Samson, and there never will be.” The longer this conversation continued, the faster Lisbeth’s heart raced.

“No, hun, it’s me who should be sorry. Boa’s always telling me not to meddle and get into people’s business, but sometimes I just can’t help it—especially when I see two people who look so good together. I guess this time, I was wrong. Just don’t tell Boa; that big beast will never let me live it down.”

“Not a problem. It’s already forgotten.”

Yeah right, a woman she barely knew saw something between her and Samson.
