"You bet, man! We had a great time!" Daniel smiled and shook his hand. "No hard feelings about the bet, maybe you'll get me next time."

Harry was baffled until they got into the car, and all was explained.

"What the fuck was all that? I thought you were going to kick his teeth in?" Harry exclaimed.

Daniel just smiled a little smile to himself as they pulled out of the long driveway.

"I'm going to download the file onto my computer, and then I can put it on a flash drive, right?"

"Yeah? So?" Harry pressed.

"So I'll send a copy to the mayor and tell him he better deal with Trent or a copy of the flash drive will be sent to every news agency in the city. Let's see him get elected then."

"Damn."

"I could kick his ass, but then it'll taint the investigation, and the audio could look coerced, you never know. I'll let the law handle him. They may be in his back pocket, but not if the mayor himself tells them to place him under arrest, "Daniel added, looking over at his brother.

"I'm impressed. Find some 24-hour place where I can pick up some flash drives, and I'll make the copies tonight."

"Good call. I need this done and finished with," Daniel sighed. "I want to be heading back to Tina by suppertime so let's get this shit done."

"You got it, brother."

Back at the hotel, Harry began making copies of the audio on Daniel's laptop and wrote a letter to the mayor's office. They didn't put their names on the envelope, although Daniel had mentioned his name on the audio. If they were called to testify, then it would be made public who they were anyway. They both hoped that the mayor would play ball; with the evidence they had, it didn't look like he'd have a choice.

DEAL WITH TRENT WATERS IMMEDIATELY,OR A COPY OF THIS AUDIO WILL BE SENT TO EVERY NEWS OUTLET IN THE CITY. YOU CAN BE THE MAN WHO TOOK DOWN A RAPIST OR THE MAN WHO WAS HARBORING ONE. IT'S UP TO YOU. IF YOU DO YOUR PART AND MAKE SURE HE IS CHARGED, WE WILL CONTACT THE D.A. AND TESTIFY IF NEEDED.

CHAPTER19

Daniel and Harry returned to Brookeway, unsure of the future. It would take a day or two for the letter to reach the mayor's desk, and Daniel just prayed that soon he'd be able to get Anna back.

"I can't thank you enough for coming with me," Daniel said, smacking his brother's leg across the seat.

"I can tell how much she means to you and I want you to be happy again."

"Me too," he sighed. "I hope this is all it takes."

"Man, if she doesn't take you back now then she ain't worth it."

Daniel figured she probably would but feared that she might be angry at him for intruding in her past or putting himself in danger against her wishes.

Daniel walked through Harry's front door when they finally arrived at his place and found Tina sitting at the kitchen table playing cards with Sarita.

"Honey," he smiled, and she looked at him with those eyes he'd missed so much.

"Dad! How was your guy's weekend?" she chirped.

"It was OK, but I missed you like crazy, girl. You ready to go home?"

"Yeah, just let me grab my stuff."

Harry took Ashley into the living room to explain everything that had happened. Sarita told Daniel what they'd done that weekend as Tina collected her things.

"Sounds like you had a blast," he smiled.
