She smelled the same, making him heady. He gritted his teeth and kept his arms from engulfing her and taking her away from all these hungry eyes…then, forced himself to understand the real message she was trying to tell him.

Stop thinking. Don’t blow my cover.

He refocused. He bit back a groan when she forgot about lightening her body and ground hard against his cock for a few seconds, her cleavage right in his face. She turned his mouth there, had him forgetting himself as he managed a quick taste of her skin. Her breath hitched, only for his ears, before she giggled incessantly.

“He’s enjoying me now, Captain Ven.”

Instead of being pleased, Ven was thoughtful.

“So. It’s just my second-in-command that you don’t like?”

Isaiah felt her freeze. This time, he covered for her and ground up, getting her distracted in a blaze of lust and making her moan. Guilt assaulted him, but so did relief when she gathered her composure after. The flirtatious look returned.

“I don’t like overtly confident men who have nothing to show. I like you. I like him.”

That seemed to convince Ven, who shrugged.

“Then he’s all yours.”

Isaiah grinned. “Thanks, mate. But maybe after a few drinks. After your shift, sweetheart?”

“Sure.”

She took the out, pushing off him with a kiss to his cheek and returning to the long bar. He tore his gaze off her, blinking at the odd look Ven directed his way.

“What?”

“After her shift? Is that a rejection of my gift?”

Damn it.

“Oh, my. I didn’t know it was a gift. On that note…”

He stood up, taking Nicola’s elbow and steering her to the back while whispering in her ear.

“What are you doing here?”

“What areyoudoing?”

“You are my gift. From him. You can’t afford to blow your cover now.”

To her credit, her alarm didn’t last and she took over, leading him to a closet at the back. They locked it, looked around, and positioned themselves in a corner. He let out a groan. She let out a moan, slapped the wall, and let an empty box fly toward the door.

“Calm down, darling. Too wild.”

“Iamsupposed to be wild.”

Being reminded of whose lap she had been on had him grabbing her hand before she could throw another box.

“Is he your purpose?”

“Yes,” was her fast response. “Not that it’s any of your business. I don’t need a knight in shining armor.”

“I’m not one. I have a goal here, too, unrelated to you; not that it’s your business.”

Her eyes widened. Footsteps sounded outside, her picking up on it faster than he did, and they didn’t waste time rocking the table back and forth while she let loose a fake cry of desire. He gritted his teeth, trying not to remember how she did sound when it was real and grunted for measure. The next whisper was lower.

“Are you going to sleep with him? Is that the goal?”
