Then back to me.

Somehow, I knew exactly what was coming.

Just couldn’t move fast enough to stop it.

In what seemed like the blink of an eye, Nalani was on her feet, reaching across the table. Jess couldn’t get out of the way in time before Nalani had a handful of hair, dragging her across the dishes, spilling shit everywhere.

I watched in horror as Jess’s hair came off. A wig, thank God, but from the way she was screaming, still painful. Nalani tossed the wig away, into a ruined dinner dish, then grabbed Jess around the neck to finish pulling her across the table before she let her drop to the floor, stepping back to pull her chair out of the way.

“Is this what you wanted?” she asked me as Jess scrambled up from the floor, backing in my direction. “You want me to act a fucking fool? Kill this bitch to make your point?”

“And what point would that be?!” Jess shrieked, looking around wildly for her hair.

“He knows.”

They were both looking at me, but I refused to give the satisfaction of acknowledging her statement.

“Orion!” Jess whined. “What is she talking about?!”

“Why does it matter, bitch?” Nalani asked. “Regardless of what he and I have going on, the fact that you came intomyhome, implying shit aboutmyhusband in front of me,your assis disrespectful. Be glad all I did was drag you across that goddamn table.”

“Thisis what you married?!” Jess asked, turning to me again for answers. “This… barbarian?!”

“Girl get the fuck out of my house, before Ireallyget active and give you what I think you deserve,” Nalani said, still calm as fuck.

Scarily so.

“Go,” I told Jess, who looked like she wanted to argue, but she started moving when Nalani did, clearly not fucking playing with her.

I… had definitely misjudged what this would look like.

“Do you feel good about yourself?” Nalani asked, from closer than before. “Giving me the silent treatment over amistake I immediately corrected, and then bringing that bitch to this house. Getting in a little breach of contract of your own?”

“What are you talking about?”

“Fidelity,Ri,” she said, her tone dry as she closed the last of the distance between us. “That’s the game you wanna play? I delay getting pregnant, you use your trollophead of marketingto embarrass me? Is that it? Or have you been fucking and parading her around your office the whole time and I’m just the last idiot to know.”

“I don’t cheat,” I growled right back at her, right in her face. “I’ve told you that shit over and over.”

She scoffed. “You don’t cheat,” she repeated, sardonically. “You just let your ex-fiancée in our house with her tits out to make comments implying you’ve had your dick in her all afternoon to get under my skin?”

I didn’t say shit.

Couldn’t say shit.

’Cause that was exactly what happened.

When I didn’t say anything—because Icouldn’tsay anything—Nala smirked. “Butthatshit didn’t work out like you thought it would, huh?”

“She might press charges.”

“It would be three stories against one,” Nalani immediately countered. “Or really just mine and yours against hers, ’cause you didn’t see shit, did you Henry?”

We both looked to where Henry was standing in the doorway, stoic.

He shook his head.

“Damn, you too?!” I asked, then realized I’d had my eyes off Nalani too long, since she was clearly feeling froggy and ready to jump.
