Too important to let stubbornness continue making a mess of things.

I stuck around with Calli a bit longer before I had to head out for the day to tend to things at the office. Shiloh’s ass was especially smug since hearing about what happened, but was somehow finding the strength to not rub anything in my face.

Shedidshow up at my door with a big ass grin when I sent her a message asking her to get a flower delivery over to my wife.

“Is this your way of making amendssss?” she said, hanging in the doorway. “Cause, it’s a cute start, but I’m telling you… plane tickets. Reservations. At minimum?Jewelry,” she added. “Or maybe shoes. Nalani dresses her ass off, so shoes would definitely hit a great note. Ijustsaw the absolute cutest pair of—”

“Just the flowers for now,” I interrupted, putting my hand up. “I don’t disagree with you, but… I need a soft opening here. The situation is delicate.”

To say the least.

Since the day she’d insisted on needing a bit of space, she still hadn’t been back home, and it was coming up on four days.

I wasnota fan.

I also knew better than to push the issue too hard with a woman like Nalani.

Shiloh didn’t argue, she just gave me a nod and stepped out to make the order.

But she came back shortly after, wearing a frown.

“Uh… the security team is saying Nalani missed a checkpoint.”

I sat up straighter, my face instantly dropping into a scowl. “How the fuck does that happen without a notification?” I asked.

“Apparently itjusthappened.”

Checkpointswere something my contracted security team had used for a while. Everybody had their normal routines and anything that fell outside was considered a missed checkpoint. Nalani had been against the idea of more hands-on security, so I didn’t have a dedicated guard on her.

Trying to be respectful of her wishes.

Now though, finding out that she’d left the office for lunch and then never come back, and nobody had eyes on her, I made the decision right there that I wouldn’t be makingthatmistake again.

Instead of panicking though, I pulled up my cell to utilize my private tracking methods, the standard GPS tags that let me know where her car and cell phone were.

Both were at her apartment.

“We’re panicking over nothing,” I let everybody know. “She just went home.”

Whether she was simply working there for the rest of the day or not feeling well, I had no clue. Still, I had Shiloh get the flowers delivered tomyoffice, and once they arrived, I took the rest of the day to myself.

Iwould be the one to deliver them.

Did I know how she might react to that?

Of course not.

I just couldn’t shake the compulsion.

There was no need for me to break in anymore. I had a keycard that accessed her door. As polite as it would’ve been to knock first, I opted against it, gesturing for Henry to wait in the hall in case she wasn’t dressed when I entered.

Or in case she decided to throw something at my head.

I knew something was off as soon as I walked in.

Nalanialwayshad music of some type playing when she was in her zone, not loud, just ever-present. The apartment was eerily quiet now though.

Except…what the hell is that?
