Stroked.

Stroked.

But wouldn’t push me all the way.

“Nala.”

His voice came as a low growl in my ear, prompting me to peel open my eyes. I’d been so enthralled with what he was doing between my legs that I hadn’t realized he’d shifted position and his face was damn near in line with mine now.

“This feels good to you?”

I couldn’t lie.

I also couldn’t make myself speak, so I just nodded, triggering a smile.

“Good,” he murmured, pressing a soft kiss to my lips before his mouth moved back to my ear. “If I ever see another man that close to you…we’re all going to have a horrible day.”

“I—ah!” I moaned, the words snatched from my throat by him pushing his fingers as deep as they could get.

“Are we clear?” he asked, lips brushing my ear, and the only response that seemed appropriate was another silent nod, so that’s what I did.

“Good,” he said, again.

Then finger-fucked me into a whimpering mess in the lukewarm tub.

His thumb on my clit was relentless and so were his fingers, neither letting up. I grabbed his wrist, hoping it would encourage him to lighten up.

Instead, he went harder.

By the time he stopped, I was out of breath and trembling, and it had nothing to do with the temperature of the water.

I expected him to leave me there in the tub, since it was clear our conversation was over. He surprised me by retrieving my robe from the warmer for me, averting his gaze while I stood to be wrapped in it.

As if he hadn’t just finished a deep exploration with his fingers.

“Shiloh will contact you with the details for your dress shopping. We’ll send you to Freeman’s,” he said, walking away from the bathroom. “I’m leaving security outside your door tonight, but you’ll have your privacy inside.”

I nodded, following. “Fine. How long do I have to have a babysitter?”

From my bedroom door, he smirked. “Just tonight. You’re moving in with me tomorrow.”

EIGHT

ORION

I didn’t enjoy “surprises.”

Good or bad.

It just wasn’t the kind of life I lived.

I thrived on information and order, knowing exactly what was about to happen next. Any spontaneity was becauseIdecided on it.

And bore the consequences.

Such as being hopelessly distracted by the news that Nalani had a prior entanglement with a wannabe fucking crime lord, which was beingincrediblygenerous.

Whatelsedid I not know?
