I groaned, shaking my head as they laughed, deciding without me that Orion’s penis would indeed be the topic.

“It’s probably wack,” I huffed.

I couldn’t say it wassmallbecause I already knew better.

Morgan squinted across the table at me. “Not if the dick skills run in the family.”

“Ooooh,” Alexis gushed. “That’s right, you used to bump uglies with Ares.”

“Do we have to talk about that?”

I sucked my teeth. “Ma’am,youbrought it up.”

“Did I?”

“Okay, you’re done.” I laughed as our server approached. “No more forher, but one more for me.”

“And me,” Alexis chimed. “My first sip will be for you, babe,” she told Morgan, who gave her a little salute.

“Since we’re on the topic…yes, I used to swap bodily fluids with Ares Sterling, fine… Is it going to be awkward to see him tomorrow though?! Well… yes, probably. But still I rise.”

“Still I…bitch.” I laughed. “Why in the world would you say that?”

“Hell, somebody has to do some encouraging, it may as well be me!”

The conversation—and laughs, so many laughs—went on from there, our drunk asses devolving into very, very silly. Morgan and Alexis were both staying at the Maple property, but still made a point of accompanying me in the ride share to get back to the luxe modern cabin in the woods that was the Sterling property.

I was just about to knock on the door when someone opened the door for me.

“Ms. Stark,” the suited man who’d let me in greeted me, before closing and locking the door, and returning to his post nearby.

Security.

There was no way they were here around the clock, right?

I shrugged it off, chalking it up to the fact that there were so many people in the house, all Sterling-related, all arriving for the wedding.

Shiloh had introduced me to a few people, all of whom had been fine, but… settling into the family was of very little interest to me. There were lights on all over the place, signaling activity I had no plans of getting involved in.

I rushed up the stairs as fast I still could carefully, heading straight for my cute little reserved suite.

Not fast enough.

My attention snagged on a woman slipping out of the same room Orion had exited before dinner. I didn’t look away soon enough to not meet her gaze.

She smiled at me, slinking my way in fuzzy slippers and a soft pink loungewear outfit that was more fit for meeting your man at the door than creeping out ofmyman’s room at two in the morning.

“Hiii,” she gushed, extending the hand that wasn’t carrying a half-empty wine glass in my direction. “I think I missed you earlier, you’re Nalani, right?”

“Yes,” I answered, looking at her hand before I brought my eyes back to her face. A very, verypretty face. “Who might you be?”

“The dirty-little-secret.” She laughed, leaning toward me like we were sharing a joke. “Kidding, of course—Jessica Givens, head of marketing forWholesome Foods. I’m sure you’ve heard my name.”

“No, I haven’t. And I wouldn’t think…this…was in your job description as head of marketing,” I said. “The head of human resources isn’t there too, I hope?”

She let out another—obnoxious—laugh. “Oh I like you, you’re funny. And quite beautiful,” she added. “I can absolutely see why Ri is locking you down. You have to tell me where these bundles came from,” she said, finding thefucking audacityfrom God knows where to raise her hand, swiping it through my hair.

I was too shocked that a Black woman would engage in such weirdo behavior to stop it before it happened. I wasnottoo shocked to push that damn hand away from me as she tried to make her way up to my roots. I took a step back, trying to gather my composure.
