“I haveeveryright!” William snapped right back, nostrils flaring as he got in Soren’s face. “That bitch lied fordecades, letting me believe I finally had something of my own. And she didn’t even tell the truth on her own, even when she wasdyingand I was fucking taking care of her. I had to force it out of her.”

“What are you talking about?!” I asked, jumping up from my seat too. “What do you mean youforcedsomething out of her? When she was sick?!”

William chuckled, looking back and forth between me and Soren. “Oh,nowyou need answers, huh? Well, I’m gonna take a cue from your mother. You can get your answers over my dead body.”

With that, he stormed out of the room, leaving Soren and I both confused as hell.

“You can getyour answers over my dead body.”

What the fuck did thatmean?

That question was still bouncing in my mind hours later, well after the excitement of the meeting had died down and it was time to get back to work.

There was still a business to be run, no matter who was at the helm.

Try as I might though, I couldn’t seem to regain my focus, which made the knock at my office door, an hour before my designated quitting time, a welcome distraction.

“A courier dropped this off for you,” my assistant said as she walked in, offering me a small, black satin box tied with stardust ribbon. She left the box on my desk with a smile and I eyed it suspiciously as she made her way back out, closing the door behind her.

Thisreekedof Orion Sterling.

Ireallydidn’t have patience for any of his antics right now.

Still, I reached for the box, noting the weight of it when I picked it up, too heavy for jewelry, despite the diminutive size. Before I opened it, I checked my phone, halfway expecting a prying message from my husband. He’d want my reaction to his “gift”, no matter what it was.

But I didn’t have any texts or missed calls. At least, not from him.

With my curiosity mounting past the point of my ability to resist, I pulled the top of the box open and my eyes went wide at the sight.

A key fob.

Averyexpensive-looking key fob, attached to a buttery soft leather strap monogrammed with a familiar constellation on one side andMrs. Sterlingon the other.

Immediate fucking eye roll.

But… curiosity wouldn’t allow me to keep my seat.

A few moments later, I found myself outside ofNectar, standing in the parking lot. Studying the key fob, I found the button to sound the horn, a little scavenger hunt that led to me standing in front of a brand new, beautifully stark white BMW coupe.

I pressed the button again to make the horn go off.

My approach to the car was slow, like the damn thing was going to disappear if I touched it. It did not. When I unlocked the doors and opened the driver’s side, I was immediately met with that leathery new car smell that made me do a deep inhale.

The interior was flawless.

Cognac on black merino leather seats, polished glass controls, a big display screen.

There wasn’t a single thing I’d change.

A black envelope tucked against the console caught my attention and I pulled it out, opening to find a note scrawled in what I quickly understood to be Orion’s handwriting.

Knowing your penchant for independence, I thought you’d be comfortable with your own transportation, rather than needing to rely on someone. Your Mercedes is being serviced and should be ready within a week or two. Feel free to go back to it once the repairs are done, but in the meantime, please enjoy this gift. There is no debt, and it is solely in your name.

-Orion.
