“No?” I placed my hand on the small of his back again because I wanted to touch him. Steering him in the direction of the bar, I leaned closer, inhaling his fresh, delicious scent. “What did you think it was going to be like?”

He shrugged. “I don’t know. For some reason, I thought it would be all red velvet. But I don’t see any velvet. Not even those curtains.”

I laughed, amused. “E, are you actually disappointed that there’s no velvet?”

“No.”

“I’ll buy you some velvet curtains for your bedroom for Christmas,” I promised as we reached the bar, and he elbowed me in the side.

“Don’t you dare. But you can buy me a drink if you want. I’ll get the next round.”

After scanning the drink menu, I ordered a gin and tonic for Elliot with extra ice to feed his addiction and a Japanese beer for myself. My eyes watered at the price—no exaggeration—and I quickly realised that we wouldn’t have to worry about drinking too much tonight. Instead, we’d have to worry about draining our bank accounts.

“Did he charge you extra for the ice or something?” Elliot asked me as we slid into an unoccupied booth facing the stage.

“No, that was just the price of the drinks. We’re not going to have to worry about getting drunk tonight at this rate.”

“Babes, I’ve got you covered.”

Elliot jumped at the sudden voice, and I grinned at him before turning to JJ. He stood in front of us, brandishing an ice bucket with a bottle of champagne and two glasses.

“This is on the house. I had to sweet-talk Austin—he’s the owner of the club—into letting me have it. I told him that it was in his best interests to keep you onside because when you’ve both finished your degrees, you’ll become rich and powerful businessmen, and he’ll want you as contacts.”

“Did you hear that, E? We’re gonna become rich, powerful businessmen. JJ said so.” I nudged him in the side.

He laughed, picking up one of the glasses that JJ had placed on the small table in our booth. “Speak it into existence, JJ.”

“Whoa, hands off the glasses. I’m here in a professional capacity tonight, so don’t make me look bad.” Effortlessly opening the bottle of champagne, JJ filled the flutes. “They’re letting me dance on the pole when Honey’s finished. It’s my first time, so I’m glad I have you two for moral support.”

“What do you mean, letting you?” Elliot arranged his flute next to his glass of gin and then fished out an ice cube.

“Normally it’s just Honey Rose and a few of the other female dancers on the pole, but I’m all about equal opportunities, so I’ve been working on Austin to let me dance too. I’m hot, and I’m a good dancer, so why shouldn’t I get to go up there and show off my moves? It’s a show, and I’m here to perform.”

“Fuck, yeah. The more variety, the better, in my opinion.” I lifted my glass to him. “E and I will be here, cheering you on.”

He grinned widely. “I’m hoping I’ll catch someone’s eye. A sexy, rich businessman, preferably. I want a sugar daddy.”

“Yesss, mate. Aim high.” I high-fived him while Elliot looked on, shaking his head.

“I can’t believe you two sometimes. You’re really on the hunt for a sugar daddy?”

JJ tapped his fingers on the table, his lips curving into a smirk. “Nah, not really. I have other ambitions for myself. I’m not going to be someone’s sugar baby. I’d just like a hot fling with an older guy. And if he’s here in this part of the club, he’s going to be either rich or connected or both, and you won’t hear me complaining.” He glanced over at the stage. “Gotta go. I need to finish getting ready for my performance. Enjoy. There’s more champagne if you finish that one.”

When he’d strutted off, I picked up my glass of beer, taking a small sip. Mmm. This was good. As it should be because I’d had three-course meals that cost less than one of these. Next to me, Elliot crunched on his ice cube, and it made me smile. Shifting closer to him in the booth, I placed my hand lightly on his thigh, just resting it there. A soft gasp escaped from his mouth. Yeah, this was what I wanted. I’d suggested coming here partly for JJ, but the reason I’d asked Elliot to come along was that I wanted to take him out again, but I didn’t want to scare him away. So by doing this, I got to have a sneaky date with him without being obvious about it.

“Having a good time?” I murmured close to his ear, blowing out a little so that he’d feel my breath on his skin. He shivered, slowly turning his head. His eyes met mine, and a look came into them that I’d never seen before. It was confident, even a little bit arrogant, and it was so fucking hot.

He glanced at my mouth, and then his tongue swiped across his lips. His gaze returned to mine, hot and heavy-lidded. “Two can play that game.”

My cock was hardening rapidly, and I was grateful for the darkness of the club and the fact that the booths were so secluded. I held my breath, waiting to see what he’d do next. Confident Elliot was my very favourite Elliot.

A finger lightly traced across the veins on the back of my hand, which was still resting on his thigh, and the noise that fell from my throat was almost a whimper. No one hadeverdone that to me in my life, and fuck me, when did the back of my hand turn into an erogenous zone?

The game was on, and I was here to win.

Sliding my hand higher up his thigh, scraping my nails against his jeans for extra sensation, I leaned in, bypassing his enticingly plush lips and skimming my nose across his cheek. Freshly showered and shaved, his skin was soft against mine. He released an unsteady breath, his head falling back against the padded backrest of the booth. I took that as my cue to move my head lower, my nose skimming down his throat. I didn’t kiss him, not yet, just enjoying getting to play with him like this.

“Ander.”
