“Okaaaay.” His voice was unconvinced. “But you kissedElliot? Your best friend? How’s he doing after that happened?”

I shrugged. “Fine, I think. We both agreed it was just a kiss—y’know, just helping him out. He’s my best mate. It’s not weird.”

“It is abitweird, babe. For Elliot too, I’m guessing.” Toying with the straw of his drink, he studied me from beneath his lashes. “So anyway, what does this all have to do with me?”

“I was getting to that. It made me think—why haven’t I tried anything with any other guys before? I think I might want to fuck a man.”

“You what?” His voice had gone extremely high-pitched, and he flung his hands around agitatedly. “No offence, Ander, but you’re reeeeally not my type. Yeah, I know we flirt or whatever, but sex? That’s afuckno. Only if there was a zombie apocalypse, and even then, I’m not sure it would happen.”

I ignored his zombie comment. “What, am I not attractive to gay men?”

He groaned loudly. “That’s not what I meant. And FYI, not every gay man has the same taste. That’s like saying every straight man has the same taste. There’s no one on this planet that everyone would agree on. No. One.”

“I realise that. But I mean…I’m everyone’s type.”

His eye roll was accompanied by a shake of his head. “Your ego never fails to astound me. You’re notmytype. I like my men a little less in-your-face. A little older. A little less…” He waved his hand at me, temporarily lost for words, and then settled for “…pretty boy.”

Smirking at him, I grasped my pint and then lifted it to my lips. “You can talk, pretty boy.”

He blew me a kiss, using his middle finger. “Yeah. I don’t want to be with someone like me, thanks. Now, are you really here to proposition me, or did you want something else?”

“I actually didn’t invite you here to proposition you for sex,” I said, a little too loudly, going by the way the two women at the next table started giggling as they stared at us. Shooting them a wink, I turned my attention back to JJ. “I want you to be my guru. I’m…curious, I guess, and I want to try a few things, see if I like it. I now know I like kissing a man, and…” I leaned closer, lowering my voice. “I was starting to get a boner when I kissed Elliot.”

“You get a boner at the drop of a hat,” JJ said dismissively. “Seriously, you might actually have a medical problem.”

Ignoring the evil gleam in his eye, I rolled my eyes, tapping my fingers on the table. “I get hard from kissing when I’m really into the girl and she’s really into me. But this wasn’t that kind of situation. For one, the slimy guy was standing right there, and then there was the fact that it was Elliot, who’s my best friend. Not a sexy hook-up.”

“Was it the same for Elliot?” Curiosity entered his gaze.

“Yep. He got hard. But that’s the power of Ander Loverrrridge.” I drew out theRin Loveridge while JJ pretended to gag at my words. “Girls get wet for me, boys get hard for me.”It meant nothing.

JJ’s brows climbed so high they were practically in his hairline. He stared at me for a minute before a slow smirk spread across his face. “Okay. Let’s test it.” He snapped his fingers. “Come with me. Bring your drink.”

I followed him outside, past the tables placed at intervals along the riverfront and around the corner of the red-brick building. He stopped next to a large industrial bin. Glass crunched under my foot.

“Awww, JJ. You take me to all the best places.”

“You know it, babe.” He slipped straight into flirt mode, eyeing me over the top of his drink, his lashes fluttering dramatically behind his glasses. “Only the best for my man.”

“You’ve ruined me for all other men.” I gulped down the last of my pint, then placed the glass on top of the bin. JJ followed suit and then turned back to me.

“You’re going to kiss me now, just like the way you kissed Elliot. Let’s see if your little hypothesis is true. If you make me hard and you also get hard, I’ll give you a free lap dance at the club.”

“Uh…thanks, but I don’t want you to give me a lap dance,” I told him.

“Not from me, obviously.” He waved his hand impatiently. “But I can get you one from Honey Rose. She’s always booked up, and she’s expensive.”Too expensive for youwere his unspoken words.

“Deal,” I said immediately. Honey Rose was the hottest female dancer at Sanctuary, the club JJ worked at part-time, and I was a poor student and so fucking here for it. “Get ready to pay up.”

Moving closer, I cupped the back of his neck as I’d done with Elliot and moved in.

Okay, JJ was a really good kisser. Soft lips, smooth, confident movements, no hesitation at all. But fuck, it felt like kissing a brother. Not that I would kiss a brother like this. And I wasn’t getting hard. Was he? I couldn’t feel anything.

Without breaking the kiss, I snaked my hand between us to check.

JJ smacked my hand away, instantly pulling back from me. “Hands away from the crown jewels.”

“Sorry, Your Highness. Wanted to see if you’re hard.”
