He turned, carrying me back to the bed. When he set me down, I wasn’t quite prepared for the way he followed me. This wasn’t the side room at the community church.

This was his bed and he was right there, larger than life and all in my space. I couldn’t glance anywhere that wasn’t at him.

“Little Bit, when I say I’m all in, I’m all in. They hurt you first. Then they came after us to hurt you again. It will be my genuine pleasure to absolutely fucking destroy them for you.”

A shudder twisted through my system. Those words were as dark and provocative as when Jasper told me they were torturing Eric.

“Has anyone ever told you that bloodthirsty is a good look on you?”

Amusement curved his lips again. “As long as it looks good to you, I don’t give a fuck what it looks like to anyone else…”

I shivered.

“It definitely looks good to me.”

“Good…now I have a question for you…”

He shifted his hands to my braid and began to loosen it but didn’t take his gaze off me. When I licked my lips, he seemed to track the motion, and I half-expected him to kiss me, even though he didn’t.

“Question?” I finally managed to push out. It was hard to think and he was undoubtedly getting hard as he pressed against me. The denim was a little rough, but it was also a distinction to the roughness of his skin. I lifted a hand to touch his chest and when I would have hesitated, he nodded.

“You may absolutely touch me, Little Bit.” There was something sexy about that permission. I stroked my fingers over the tattoo there, studying the pattern as I teased my fingers over the twists in the scar tissue.

I was kind of petting him, but he didn’t seem to be complaining. I lifted my head as he pulled my hair free and combed his fingers through it. “I thought you had a question…”

“How are you feeling right now?” He stared at me intently.

“Physically?”

“That and emotionally—mentally—how are you?”

Drained. Worried. Afraid. Elated. Terrified. Thrilled. Confident.

Safe.

“Loved,” I whispered. “I feel loved.”

CHAPTER20

EMERSYN

Shyness feathered through me at the intensity in his eyes. I indulged myself, stroking and petting his shoulders, then his arms. The texture of the scars versus the undamaged skin was so wildly different—his two sides; the healer and the warrior. The poetry wasn’t lost on me, nor was the irony. I wanted to explore all of his tattoos. I wanted…

Stretching upward, I pressed my lips to the first image painted over the scars. It looked like armor, shaped over the skin, or maybe his body had become his armor. He slid a hand to my nape, almost supporting me as I traced the ink lines that followed the ridges and scars beneath.

The woodsy combination with his natural scent filled my lungs. I could see Mickey as a mountain man without trying. He had the size, the fierceness—his gentle hands disguised a deeper roughness. I loved all the layers. He let out a groan as I nuzzled kisses, continuing my exploration.

He finally rolled over, and I grinned as he settled me on top of him. Hands gliding down my sides, he chuckled. “I want to fuck you until you scream,” he said. “Slide into that slick little pussy, fill you up, then fuck you again. You are so goddamn beautiful, Little Bit.”

Heat scalded my skin at the compliments. “I want you to fill me up,” I told him, tracing my fingers around his nipples. The one on his right puckered, but not the one on the left.

Nerve damage.

I dipped my head, pushing my hair out of the way so I could tease and lap at the responsive nipple before paying homage to the unresponsive one. The striations under his tattoos made my heart ache. More, this close, the individual nuances in the armor-like pattern made more sense, and I lifted my head to study it.

“It’s a dragon…” There were the beginnings of a head there, eyes barely slit open as if the dragon was asleep. Although the pattern of the scales distracted you and steered your attention to the shoulder and his arm. When he cupped my face, I caught his hand and kissed the palm before teasing kisses along his arm.

His groan just made me smile as I followed the patterns laid over the scales of the dragon. A hidden rose, a vine of ivy that tugged at my heart, then a lily, and more. They were tucked in some places, subtle. While in others, they were open and more pronounced.
