Vaughn let him go and backed off as he tried to thrash. While Sharpe couldn’t balance very well, he did try to extend his foot, opened the cut, and added to the discomfort.

“Nice,” I said after a moment. It was simple yet effective.

Doc just shot me a droll look. Folding my arms, I shrugged. I was allowed to enjoy the work, but I got it. Not the time. I’d save my compliments for later.

“Want another go, or are we moving around the circle?” Kellan asked.

“We can come back to my question.” Doc nodded to me, and I cracked my knuckles. I had the second question.

I moved up next to our prisoner and ignored the blood smear on the floor. We really were just getting started.

“So, Mr. Sharpe,” I said, keeping my tone polite. “You insisted that you tried to protect her. You couldn’t answer her question earlier, so let me ask you again. At what point in her life did youeveractually protect her?”

A groan was the only sound from under the hood.

“I don’t think he gets this game,” I said to Kellan. “Do we need to explain the rules to him again?”

Please say yes.

“Give him a life lesson. I don’t mind taking my time, but if he needs to understand how much pain we can inflict, let’s go ahead and give him a demonstration.”

Milo shifted his gaze to the side. Socks and fruit. We needed to keep him alive long enough to answer everything and suffer. So, we started with what hurt but didn’t do as much damage as it felt like.

I struck first, but Freddie’s blow landed a split second after mine, and Milo’s caught him from the front. Liam and Vaughn were quick to join in.

Sharpe had pissed himself for a third time, though I remained content to deliver the beating.

For. Now.

CHAPTER27

VAUGHN

Forty-five minutes in, Sharpe passed out from the pain. Doc woke him with smelling salts. He didn’t make it another hour before collapsing again. Not all of the patches that Doc put on him were for shock treatments. He actually had two cardiac monitors on.

“His pulse is fast but within range,” Doc said as he hooked up an IV for fluids. “We should probably give him a few hours, then start again.”

“No, if we wait a few hours, he might dig in. He’s already wavering. The only thing keeping him from telling us everything is he’s afraid of his brother, ” Milo said.

I’d caught that too. “Perhaps we bring Moira down here?”

Jasper grimaced. “We should save her for a final coup de grâce. Once we crack him, thenwe bring her in.”

Freddie spun his knife around on the edge of his fingers. “Didn’t Rome say he was on the phone with the fuckbucket when we got him?”

“Yes,” Kellan answered as he twisted open a bottle of water. “Turned over all the electronics to Alphabet. They already know where we are, so tracking us isn’t a concern. At the same time, we need the data off of it.”

“He’s trying to track the numbers back, but the other phone is off.” Of course, Doc had spoken to them. Made sense. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to think about Doc’s team personally. Professionally? They were solid. That and Doc trusted them, so that was enough for me.

“I was kind of hoping we could trace him that way,” Freddie said, still observing Sharpe as he spun his knife.

“He won’t be anywhere they own,” Liam said. “He’s been in hiding since we got Hellspawn back.” Then, he cut a look at Sharpe. “He’s been sending this asshole out to do appearances. Meanwhile, they dump the wife in a facility and keep her drugged.”

“Leverage?” Doc asked, but even as he formed the word, he appeared to be shaking his head. “No, that would be too direct.”

“Yeah, he didn’t seem that broken up about her,” Milo said. “It could be an act, but we don’t know anything for sure.”

“Oh, we know some things,” Jasper said as he paced the room and stretched. “He’s a sack of shit for one.”
