“Dibs,” Liam said before anyone else could, and I chuckled as Doc grumbled.

“As long as she isn’t alone.” Kellan sounded tired.

Slitting an eye open, I studied him. “Hit the hay. You need sleep. We’re not starting on him again until tomorrow, right?”

“Right.”

“Then sleep.”

Kel nodded. Freddie was already asleep, and Doc didn’t look far off. No one had made any moves to put Dove to bed yet. Liam waited for Milo to join us before he rose and Rome surrendered her to his brother.

After he carried her into her room, Milo sank into the chair Liam had abandoned.

“Doc’s friends have watch on the warehouse. The new cameras are working. Everyone who can sleep should.” Kellan hadn’t come back out, so hopefully, he already was.

“Yeah,” Doc said. “Everyone who can.”

He cut a look to Rome and me. “Go sleep. I’ll nudge you in four hours. Then crash myself.”

Worked for me. I shoved off the sofa and headed for my room. To absolutely no one’s surprise, Rome went for Dove’s room.

Where she slept was usually where he did.

I didn’t bother to get undressed, just fell back on the bed. Four hours. My internal clock could handle that.

That was at least eight to twelve before we went to see Sharpe again.

The man was going to shit himself.

Good.

CHAPTER28

EMERSYN

Warmth enveloped me. A hand on my back and another on my ass registered, as awareness swept aside the fog of sleep. Twin scents of sandalwood with hints of rosewood and amber tickled my nostril. The thump of a steady heartbeat beneath my ear and hard muscle pressed to my cheek.

Liam.

I rubbed my cheek against him slowly. Hopefully, I hadn’t drooled. When it was just Rome, I always woke up with him wrapped around me, cradling me like he would his bear. I loved that bear.

The trickle of thoughts split to follow both mental paths, only at the same time, I tugged my attention from those to Liam. Somehow, Liam always pulled me over him, draping me like I was his personal blanket.

Lifting my head slowly, I blinked to let my eyes focus on the near gloom of the room. There was a night light in the corner, the soft blue light hardly likely to disturb our sleep. Yet it offered just enough illumination where I could make out the line of Liam’s jaw. He had one arm curled beneath his head, the other wrapped around me with his hand on my ass.

The other hand on my back belonged to Rome. Turning my head a fraction, I smiled at where Rome slept on his side. He angled toward us, the weight of his hand a steady comfort. I’d gone to sleep in his lap, all the while trying to wrestle my recalcitrant emotions back into their box.

Not that I had much success. I’d hoped so much that my father hadn’t known. That we’d see shock or surprise. Even if he hadn’t expressedthoseemotions, where was the disgust or sadness? He discussed Mom’s rape, like it was an unfortunate punishment forhimand the miscarriage as a relief.

Going to see Mom after probably hadn’t been my brightest move. She was angry and upset that Dad was here. Angrier that I wouldn’t let her see him, not yet. When she said she wanted to go, I told her we needed to wait.

The conversation devolved into tears and recrimination. It might have gotten even worse if Rome hadn’t told her no, she didn’t get to leave until it was safe and to stop harassing me. Then ushered me out.

Hard to harass me if I wasn’t in there. Once back in the suite, I had difficulty not thinking about what the guys were doing. I didn’t care if they were torturing my father. Iknewhe deserved it. At the same time, he was still the father I’dprotectedfrom my uncle.

I’d protected them both, or thought I was, and what had they done?

“Hey,” a soft voice in the dark said, and I lifted my lashes to meet the concern in Liam’s eyes as a tear tracked down my cheek.
