‘It’s so electric,’ she marvelled, leaning to whisper into Kage’s ear. ‘Best feeling ever.’

He reached over and squeezed her hand. ‘You deserve it. You all worked hard to get here, and your team adores you, and they’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of a groundbreaking project.’

Harlow rewarded his statement with a big smile and a soft, close hug. It was all Kage could do not to dip his head and cover her lips with his own. A shiver went through his body, and his cock reacted, thickening with anticipation.

She must have felt it because she gave him a saucy smile and rose to brush past him, her ass dipping low to brush his thighs. He hissed as she swept out of the booth, headed to the bar and slipped behind the bar, and launched into making cocktails and drinks for everyone alongside Jarok. His eyes followed her every move, instinctively drawn to wherever she was. He drank her in, so much so that he ignored his beer.

She’d never looked more radiant. She was so dynamic, and he loved how she was becoming quite the mixologist, becoming a dab hand at how to stir, shake and strain timeless cocktail classics.

The team welcomed the curated range of drinks she created, downing them enthusiastically as they talked and laughed, reminiscing about their career exploits and sharing stories from their lives. Sondra broke out into song at one moment, Dan and Bassam shared their card tricks, and a group of Sable engineers who’d joined the test team exchanged mad stories about the company’s past freak-out experimental failures.

Sometime later, the tired but happy team made plans to filter out into the embrace of Eden II’s scape. They’d exceeded expectations, and they’d celebrated in style. Better still, as they pulled on their jackets and nabbed their bags, Kage declared the next day off work. The Proto-XE team cheered, looking forward to some well-deserved downtime.

Kage and Harlow were the last ones left in the booth. It was late, and the club was quiet and peaceful, with only soft music and conversation filling the air. Harlow took the final sip of her daiquiri, and Kage tagged his beer, needing to keep his hands busy instead of on her skin, which is what he was dying to touch.

They sat together silently until Harlow shot him a kittenish look. Kage held her gaze, feeling the pull between them ramp up to a whole new level.

‘We winding this up or what?’ he rasped.

She nailed him with a long look, then silently took the strawberry from the edge of her empty glass and tipped her head back, popping it slowly between her lips.

She knew exactly what she was doing.

And he welcomed it. A frisson of desire snaked through him, hitting him deep in his core. ‘Ready?’

‘As I’ll ever be,’ she said huskily. And he knew she was speaking of more than just the present moment.

He rose to his feet and held out his hand.

She slipped her palm onto his, and he pulled her up, folding her into his arms.

They dream-walked to the elevator, lost in their own little world, in each other and in anticipation. In the lifts, they held hands and locked eyes. Finally, the doors opened to Kage’s floor, and he led Harlow into his cavernous warehouse space.

‘Amazing,’ Harlow whispered, looking around at the expansive kitchen and living area framed by the enormous windows that soared several stories up.

They let in the panoramic views of the surrounding domed city. The apartment was slightly older than the ultra-modern 517 design, but it still was a stunningly elegant and open-concept layout. The floors were polished wood, and the walls were adorned with tasteful artwork and decor.

The living area was spacious and inviting, with a sprawling couch and comfortable and stylish furniture, plus a state-of-the-art entertainment system. The kitchen was a chef’s dream, with top-of-the-line appliances and plenty of counter space for cooking and entertaining.

The living space butted to a workout room filled with every exercise machine known to man. The next level featured a royal king-size bed that floated off the floor aided by an electromagnetic force field with comfortable beds, plush linens, and ample storage space.

But the true highlight of the luxury loft rooftop apartment was the outdoor space, overflowing with plant life, a dining and lounge area, and a fire pit. The terrace offered stunning views of the city skyline and seemed the perfect place to entertain guests, relax, and unwind.

‘It’s like an oasis.’

He shrugged slightly. ‘It’s alright,kara.’

Harlow smiled. ‘You’re the king of the downplay. As if you’d live in a space less awe-inspiring than this.’

They stood in the middle of the beautiful space gazing at each other.

He took one step toward her, then another.

Finally, they stood close, barely touching.

‘First,’ she whispered, staring into his silver eyes. ‘I want to explain why I ran out on you the other day at the club. It was a hard day for me.’

Kage shook his head. ‘I hear you, kara. I also know I pushed you too hard. I’m sorry too.’
