He strolled towards the pair.

‘Zane,’ Kage murmured, throwing his hands around the man who stood out in sharp contrast to his more casual flair.

‘Brother,’ the newcomer said, returning the embrace.

The two men pulled apart.

‘This is Harlow,’ Kage said, gesturing to his guest.

‘Pleasure, Harlow,’ Zane nodded, turning the full force of his blue eyes towards her. Even though she noted their calm, controlled assessment, she melted.

Were all The Sable Group members all this devastatingly male and oozing with pheromones? Damn.

‘Welcome to 517, our metro centre HQ,’ he continued. ‘We’ve just recently completed construction, so bear with us as there’s still some final tweaking to be done.’

‘Congratulations,’ Harlow said. ‘It looks stunning,’ smiling at the riveting blue-eyed man.

‘I think so. It’s probably more flashy than the Group normally goes for, but it’s needed, seeing as it’s our showroom on Eden II.’

‘It’s where we wow our business clients and planetary dignitaries so they can part with their schills more easily,’ Kage quipped. ‘Where’ve you stashed her?’ he continued, jerking his chin towards Harlow.

‘Suite 2,’ Zane replied.

‘Nice. Harlow, you’re in for a treat,’ Kage grinned.

‘You are,’ Zane confirmed. ‘We didn’t skimp on the fixtures at 517. You’re in one of our three bedder suites with a terrace, private elevator and infinity pool.’

Harlow was stumped. ‘All that for me? Holy Dunia, it sounds amazing.’

Kage chuckled. ‘Zane designed it, so tone down your praise. Unfortunately, his head tends to swell exponentially with each compliment he gets. At this rate, he’s about to explode.’

Zane reached a hand to swipe the back of Kage’s head, and in seconds the pair were play-brawling in front of Harlow.

Zane’s suit flew around, and despite his leaner physique, it was clear the men were closely physically matched. They broke apart with a laugh.

‘Looks like you need more mat sessions with me,kinai,’ Kage taunted. ‘You’re losing your form.’

‘Don’t push it, K,’ Zane warned it. ‘Been working on mykapo. I kicked Kainan’s ass just this morning. He’s still groaning where I left him.’

Kage scoffed. ‘He needs to up his game. Since Selene, he’s all over on his form. His mojo is being put to work elsewhere.’

Harlow’s eyes widened at Kage’s insinuation.

Zane grinned and nodded. ‘Good to meet you, Harlow,’ he called out, straightening his suit jacket and pulling it closed. ‘Have a meeting; got to run.’

He pulled Kage close and whispered something into his friend’s ear. Kage guffawed in reaction and pushed his friend away. ‘Fokk you, man!’

The pair shared a look. Almost as if they were talking to each other. Harlow was mesmerised momentarily, watching a wave of quick expressions flit across their faces. Then, when they both turned to her, she couldn’t hold back her curiosity.

‘What was that?’ she interjected.

Kage looked instantly apologetic. ‘Sorry. We tend to slip into our nodes too easily sometimes. Won’t happen again.’

‘Nodes?’

‘All us Riders have neural nodes that are linked, allowing us to comm one another without speaking out loud,’ Zane explained in his quiet, low voice.

‘They also link our brains with external tech and even to our AI network with Mirage without needing a physical connection,’ Kage added. ‘Wherever we are across the System, we’re always connected, like one little happy family.’
