‘What the hell about? What is it with men wanting to talk tonight?’

She tried to shake off Ruben’s hand. He held on. She panicked and gave a muffled cry of frustration. He pulled her closer until he was whipped straight off his seat.

Kage.

He casually wrapped his powerful arms around the flailing man on the floor and lifted him like he weighed nothing. The Rider strode to the reception, where he threw the struggling man into the arms of the colossal Iccythrian at the door.

Harlow watched, mouth agape as Mojo bodily lifted Ruben in one hand and, as soon as the door slid open, tossed the Rhesian man into the street.

He fell heavily to the ground, then whipped up to his feet, shouting at the mountain of a man before him, to no avail. The bouncer used a thick, beefy arm to point in aget-the-fokk-outta-heredirection.

Ruben snarled at him but saw sense in the suggestion. He brushed off his clothes, straightened a jacket, gathered what was left of his dignity and took off down the street. But not before nailing Harlow with a scathing glower that she felt through the thick plex of the bar’s frontage.

Satisfied, a steely-faced Kage turned and marched up towards Harlow.

‘Ready now?’

‘Do I have a choice?’ she breathed.

By then, Kage was prowling towards a darkened corner of the bar where a row of private suites was situated. He rolled into one and stood at the entrance, arms crossed over his burly chest.

She shook her head in exasperation and approached, her ire rising.

She whipped past him and into the room. He closed the door and strode inside, throwing his beautiful body onto a couch.

She chose to stay standing, keeping a palm around her neck to hide her earlier injuries from Kage. She wasn’t ready to deal with his questions about them.

They glared at each other, bristling with a range of emotions.

Kage ran a hand over his face like he did when drained. His fingers remained running through his beard and chin.

‘The company you keep sucks,’ Kage ground out finally.

‘Could say the same about you.’

‘I come back from a mission and find you are spending time with the one loser I told you to stay away from,’ he finally said. ‘What the heck, Harlow?’

Harlow reared back at the level of fury roiling from Kage.

‘Damn you, Kage. You don’t know what you saw.’

‘Saw what I saw,’ he grit out.

‘So did I.’

He scoffed. ‘And what did you see?’

She gave him a cold smile. ‘A woman you’ve obviously been with, rekindling good times with you.’

He huffed with frustration. ‘You looked away, kara, before I pulled away.’

‘She also claimed you’re a great boss and even more when you choose.’

Kage’s body jerked. He snapped forward, eyes narrowed, his body tight with suppressed energy that visibly sparked around his body. ‘What -? Did she speak to you? About me?’

Suddenly Harlow knew she’d roused a very dangerous beast indeed.

‘Yes,’ she said, feinting indifference with a shrug. ‘No matter though, because you can do whatever you want with whomever you want. I don’t care. And neither should you care about any time I spend with any other man other than you.’
