Taking his hand, I led him to the couch, then pushed him down on it. He looked at me hungrily. I climbed into his lap, putting my legs on either side of his thighs and kneeling.

"WhereshouldI start?" I purred.

"Wherever you want, babe."

"No, tonight you get to pick your favorites."

His eyes flashed, and he wiggled his eyebrows.

I pinched his shoulder. "You aresucha guy."

"What? You asked me to pick my favorite."

"That's right. My fault entirely," I said, moving a bit farther away and opening the button of his jeans.

With a flash, I realized I wanted to do this my whole life. Love him and take care of him and... well, let myself be loved. If I was being honest, that wasn't something I did easily, and I really didn't know why, or if there even was a reason. But I'd fallen hard for Sam all those years ago and again now, and I wasn't afraid.

Life was simply too good, and we were fighting our demons together. I could finally let myself hope that this could last forever. That we'd come home to each other like this and talk, kiss, hug, spoil each other with delicious food, and, of course, sexy times.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Sam

"Pity we couldn't flyin Travis's helicopter," I told Avery as we entered our suite at the Plaza Hotel in New York two weeks later.

My brother bought a helicopter a while ago after he sold his first business. He even had a pilot’s license, but he didn't have time to fly himself anymore. He couldn’t find a pilot for today, so we’d come with the commercial airline.

"That’s fine. I enjoyed the plane flight, and it was fun to see LaGuardia.” Avery looked around with a huge smile. “This place is so fancy."

I liked making her happy. New York looked festive at this time of the year. Chicago, too, but not like New York. The whole city was lit up. We’d spotted a few Christmas trees during the Uber ride over, though it wasn’t even Thanksgiving yet. Retailers were always rushing the holidays.

Avery looked around, biting her lip. "I'll change real quick, and then we can go." The party was in two hours on Amsterdam Avenue.

“We can stroll a bit in the city before the party too,” I suggested.

“Only if you agree to be my tour guide.”
