“Okay…”

“I don’t want family business affecting the club, but I can’t have people sniffing around and disrespecting me at the same time. If they make attacks there, they’re purposely being disrespectful.”

“I didn’t know about it until you told me so how do you expect them to?”

He’d made a good point. They couldn’t respect what they didn’t know.

“Then, I’ll work around it unless whoever did it comes back.”

“And then…”

“Then they’ll know who that club belongs to. They won’t have a choice when I’m aiming a gun in their direction.” I growled.

“Let me do some digging to see what I can find out. When I have news, I’ll come back and let you know. We can’t have you trigger-happy. You need to stay out of sight and keep your hands clean. You know that, right?”

“I do. However, I won’t sit idle. That’s not my style.”

“I know.” He pulled out his phone and sent a text message. “I heard you put Pop out.”

“No, I moved him into a highrise where I can keep him out of trouble.”

“What’s going on?” He leaned forward as if I’d finally said something interesting to him.

“You know that the Ricci family has been on his shit list for a long time.”

“I do. He’s been at war with George.”

“Except, they’ve been at war over territory and misunderstandings. George is stepping down soon and his son Eli is stepping up. We’ve been talking and he seems ready to finally hash this out. The lines of respect fall short near the coast. It’s where they unload and where we pick up shipments. My solution is that we split it down the middle. We’ll go east and they’ll go west. It protects our dock and gives them one to use, too.”

“What if it’s a setup?” He asks while debating something.

“They don’t have the resources to set us up. We’ve got the coast guard in our pockets. It costs us too much not to be protected.”

“What are they losing? It sounds like we’re splitting the docking ports when we were open to using both of them.”

“We’re gaining the business district. They deal mostly with imports and they don’t need the area to keep working. Letting it go to gain the dock is more beneficial to them which works well for us. Drugs in the corporate area is a big deal. They spend more and won’t question the spike in prices. To have it come to them, minimizing the risks will have them to our advantage as well. If we shift a few of the guys around so that we have the right men over there, this is pure fucking gold.”

“Are you still into turning that courier business that’s down there?” His eyebrow raised.

“I’d forgotten about that. Seems like the perfect opportunity. If we can have dudes on bikes carrying our shit wherever we need to, I say let’s get started. Can you handle this?”

“Without a doubt.”

“Keep it clean, Max,” I warned him.

“No doubt. Despite what you and Pops think, I can actually talk.” He chuckled.

“Never did I think you couldn’t. I know that you’re more than capable of doing things. Whenever you’re ready to do something different than you have been, let me know.”

Massimo watched me as if he thought that I was pulling his leg. Not wavering, I wondered if there was something else that he wanted to do besides enforcing rules on people who didn’t seem to understand them.

“Did Pop say that was okay?” He asked hesitantly.

“Max, it’s me and you. I do what I want. Tell me what you want to do and we’ll find a way to make that happen. I don’t need his blessing or permission to do anything.”

“Understood.” He nodded but seemed uncomfortable.

“I’m going to go get Simone and get out of here. I need some sleep before I get back to the club later.” It was ten a.m and I’d been told that Simone was usually there by five unless something else required her to be there earlier.
