THREE MONTHS LATER

TALYNN - ATLANTA

“What’s wrong?” Tackett pulls me close.

“Nothing.” I pause before meeting his eyes. “Everything.”

“Tay,” he says softly. “What do you mean? Everything’s perfect. We’re together, that’s all that matters.”

I explain that I’m lonely without him here. The majors are different—they never have a day off. At least in the minors there’s usually at least one or two days a week where they don’t have games.

“It’s just the first month we spent doing the reality show. I was traveling with you some and when we weren’t together, I had work and the crew from ESPN to keep my mind off missing you.”

“I wonder when ESPN will air it?”

“I don’t know. Maybe ask Nic? Anyway, then we moved here, and I was busy unpacking, decorating and getting us settled, but now…” her voice trails off. She looks down at the ground and shrugs. “I don’t have you around. I don’t have Megan and Archer. I don’t have my friends. Hagan and Harper are in college, and I’m lonely, Tackett.”

He nips on my ear. “I love you. You can get a job if you want, but I can take care of you.” He nudges my neck until it’s open and his perfect lips trail kisses from my ear to my shoulder. “What can I do? Tell me how to make you happy.”

“Youmake me happy.” The touch of his fingers grazing my hips and rolling them into his erection sets off a frenzy of electronic pulses. I hook my arm around his neck. “You can’t expect me not to miss you. I’m a woman.” I pull his mouth to mine. Our kiss is needy. “With needs.”

“You are a woman.” He picks me up and carries me into our bedroom in our new four bedroom, three bath house. He wanted to have lots of bedrooms so there’s always a bedroom close by. “You drive me crazy, baby. Seven-day road trips suck.”

Tackett takes his time devouring every inch of me. I stroke him, because now that I know what quid pro quo means, I’m all for it. “You’re as hard as steel,” I say as he sucks my breast and lightly touches his fingers against my sides. My skin is sensitive to his touch as my body breaks out in what I now call love bumps. He smiles feeling the bumps pop up.

“Steel isn’t that hard.”

What the hell is he talking about? And during sex…

He licks me until my body feels like the aftermath of a hurricane—completely destroyed. Then he moves up, rocking over me and rubbing his erection between my folds. I don’t know how, but my body reacts, arching off the bed grinding harder into him.

“Please.”

“Please what, baby? How much can you take?”

“More.”

He presses in. “What’s harder than steel?”

I pant out, “You.”

Our bodies move like waves. Sometimes we move easy and fluid. Other times we crash and crest, letting the tingly feelings linger. He’s everything.

He kisses me gently, carries me into the shower and we soap each other up. We sneak in a few kisses but most of the time we’re laughing as I play with his Slump. Tackett gets out first because I need to shave my legs.

“I’ll make us breakfast. Come down when you’re ready,” he says with a big goofy grin as he steps out of the shower.

I’ve worked up an appetite, so I hurry. Leaving my hair wet, I throw on one of his old yellow Sharks T-shirts and pad downstairs.

When he looks at me, I see him swallow hard. His breathing is short and fast. “God, you’re beautiful. Oscar was right.”

“You’re not making sense this morning.” I laugh. He sits our breakfast plates on the island.

“Diamonds are harder than steel.”

“What? Why do you know all of these facts?” I ask, shaking my head.
