I walk over to Adalee and she’s rocking back on her heels, twisting her bottom lip while biting it. “Hey, ride with me. My vehicle is suddenly empty.”

She presses those fiery lips into a thin line, and my muscles tense as I prepare for an incoming bomb strike. “Thanks for changing your mind.”

She’s called off the strike, and maybe I should call off Operation Dickhead.

“But I called Bryce, and he’s meeting me at gate nine.”

Strike confirmed straight to the heart. And who the hell is Bryce?

The score: Hagan—1, Adalee—1

Who’s going to break first?

ChapterSeventeen

Adalee

He lookedlike he was going to explode when I toldhimBryce was picking me up. What was I supposed to do? Wait until everyone left the stadium and call an Uber? I don’t think that would have happened, but I’m not a charity case and there’s no way I could hold my head high if Hagan’s brother had to talk him into giving me a lift.

The Stallions recognized the men’s gymnastics team for their charity work with a summer boy’s camp. Since he was at the game, he was my only choice. Ginger didn’t answer her phone. The stadium has 80,000 people trying to use the wi-fi and cellular so sometimes the calls fail.

Bryce and I stand in the front yard of the baseball house. Affection should be his middle name. His hands need to be in motion. He’s fixing my scarf and touching my hair. He’s had one beer and talking up a storm.

As I scan the yard for Hagan, Bryce grabs my hands, gripping them so hard it hurts. People don’t realize how strong male gymnast’s hands are. “Who are you looking for? Please tell me it’s not the new baseball transfer.”

“Actually, I am. We’re partners on an engineering project.”

His eyes roll so far back in his head that he may fall backward. He’s handsome, but not when his eyes look like eggs. “Girl, it’s your business, but haven’t you had your fill of bad boys?”

“You just want him for yourself,” I joke.

“Maybe, but Addy Bug, you deserve someone that has the same values, that won’t pressure you.” He wraps me in a hug.

I give him a faint smile. He’s one of the few people that knows Chaz continually pressured me to be intimate. It’s embarrassing that I’m twenty-one and haven’t had sex. “Thanks.”

Suddenly, the most sought after jocks on campus are standing in front of us.

“It looks like your plans didn’t quite turn out.” Logan laughs as his eyes dart between Hagan and me.

“Adalee, glad you made it here, safe,”Hagan claims as he stuffs his hands in his denim pockets and rocks on his heels.

“Hey.”

Logan scans the area before asking, “Who’s your friend?”

Hagan answers for me. “Adalee’s date.” Then he peers down at mine and Bryce’s hands clasped together. “I’m going inside.” He spins, unable to get away quick enough. My heart drops because I like Hagan, more than I’ve let on. It’s time to make this right.

I jerk my hands from Bryce. “This is my friend Bryce.” I turn to Bryce. “Thanks for the ride. Are you staying?”

“Yeah, I told a friend I’d swing by. Have fun.” Bryce wiggles his eyebrows.

Logan throws his arm around me as we walk up the driveway. I don’t glance back.

“So, who’s the friend?”

“Bryce is on the gymnastics team. I needed a ride here because—” He pats my shoulder in understanding.

Did Hagan tell him that I was awful today? “Did you know scouts were watching you?”
