He tilts his head ever so slightly, like he’s dancing to a sensual song as he eliminates the centimeters between us. “What do you do when you think about my body?” His gravelly voice sends hot tingles shooting through my veins.

Playing the vixen, I say, “Come back over and find out.”

“Be careful Adalee, you might need an extinguisher to put out the raging flames inside me.”

Laughing, I jump up and wrap my legs around his waist. We bang into the siding. “It’s been five days since we slept in the same bed, and I want do that again.”

“Me too, babe. I’m going to get these papers done tonight so we have the whole weekend together. Okay?”

“Okay.”

Three more kisses and he’s gone.

It’s hard to believe he’s mine. But I wasn’t joking, I miss him—the feel of his arms around me and his phantom kisses on my neck. I miss his dimples and the way he combs his fingers through his thick wavy hair.

Ginger comes home from Joe’s because he’s at the team dinner too. We’re both happy at the same time which makes our friendship even stronger. We’re best friends and our guys are best friends. They both have a ton of friends, but I would say Joe and Logan are Hagan’s besties.

Joe’s the partier and always has some funny story to tell. They share the connection of the baseball team and now they date roommates. I love saying that I’m dating Hagan Chatham.

There’s been no more sexting in our late night calls and texts. I think he’s giving me space to tell him more about my family life. But, I haven’t gone there. The pain seems to come back stronger when I think about it or talk about it.

But now I know his favorite color is green. When I asked why, he said because he grew up helping the groundskeepers at Kodiak field. He loves how the blades of grass glisten on a sunny day and how mowing it in different directions makes patterns.

His sister, Harper, is anxious about being separated from him and he feels guilty for transferring. She told him to go and actually encouraged him, but that doesn’t take away his sense of responsibility for her.

The one thing I was shocked about is that he attended boarding school. My face hung long and eyes wide when he told me. I can’t believe a family that is so close would send their children off to school. He assured me it was within an hour drive, and they only went for three years. “Babe, we were never lonely. Someone from our family was with us every weekend. They definitely ruined many parties,” he said, chuckling.

Ginger turns on our Alexa and plays music while we dance around with spoons in our hands. Singing like we’re two of the Spice Girls. We twirl each other until she gets dizzy and falls into the chair. I lay down on the floor beside her until the giggling stops.

“Ging?”

“Yeah?”

I sigh. I’ve never told Ginger that I’m a virgin, but she may have come to that conclusion on her own. “I want to have sex with Hagan.”

“Of course, you do. Who doesn’t? Well, except me. Joe and I are one hundred percent exclusive.” She cackles. “Wait, you haven’t been together that long even though you’ve danced around each other since the end of summer.”

Breathing in deep, I grab the collar of my shirt, preparing to spill my guts. “I’ve never been with a guy. Hagan has no idea. He went down on me at his house, and I didn’t know what to do. Where to put my hands. Where to look?”

She turns on her side on the kitchen floor and says, “First, you and Chaz never?”

I shake my head. “We did somesecond base stuff, as he put it. He wanted to check off boxes, he didn’t actually want me.”

She curls her lips. “Yeah, Chaz is an asshole. I told you that. If I didn’t want Joe so bad and to tag along to a few games with you, I would have made you break it off with him.”

“Gee, thanks.”

“Anyway, once Hagan wentdowntown, I’m sure intuition took over, right?” She waits for me to respond. When I don’t, she continues. “Addy Bug, everything I’ve seen and heard about Hagan is that he’s going to do what you feel comfortable with. He’s a good guy, and there aren’t that many of them. Just let him know what feels good and you’ll both be happy.”

She leans up and circles her arms around her knees. Her red straight hair is frizzy from practice. “I’m spending the night at Joe’s, so you and Hagan can have some privacy to talk about having sex or just having sex. Now let’s make some dinner so we both have energy to please our men.”

I smack her in the arm. “Thanks Ging. I’m so glad you and Joe are in love and happy. I hope Hagan and I can get to that point because I’ve never had all these sexual feelings before. He brings out the naughty in me.”

“It’s fun being a naughty good girl. When you do something they don’t expect, they get a high you can never imagine.”

We cook some chicken and put it over a salad, and I make grilled cheese sandwiches. We watch Friends re-runs for an hour before she showers and heads to the baseball house to shack up with Joe.

I decide to primp a little by putting on some eyeliner and mascara. I flat iron my hair in case Hagan comes by and brush on a little peach lip gloss to attract him to my lips. God, I’m so enamored with him already. My feelings began the first night I saw him. Unfortunately, it was also the night I tore my ACL.
