“Do you think your family will like me?” I ask.

We snag a spot right in front of my door. And when we come together on the sidewalk, he reaches for my hands. “Of course. Archer and Megan already do. Megan loves your spirit and that you made me work for your time and attention. But we both knew you were hot for me.” His head sways back and forth as a grin takes over his face.

I love that he’s not just one thing.

Not just cocky.

Not just sweet.

Not just intelligent.

Not just sexy.

Not just playful.

He’s everything.

His hands slide under my backpack, giving me a lip disintegrating kiss. What did I do right to deserve this man?

My gymnastics bag serves as a suitcase since I don’t have one. I throw clothes into the bag. Hagan looks in my underwear drawer and says, “Can we take these?” They’re thongs with leopard print. Then he twirls green lacey ones on his finger. “But these may be good luck. The Kodiaks are green. Definitely taking these.”

“Because baseball players are superstitious?” I ask.

He chuckles and when he throws his head back his hair swooshes. “No, because I have plans.”

He stalks toward me.

“You do? Big plans?” I ask, twitching my brows.

His golden brown eyes dance when he says, “The biggest…you’ve seen it.”

“I have.”

And we kiss for the next five minutes. We make a pit stop at his house. I stay in the car calling Ginger while he packs. I told her that Hagan and I had sex and how wonderful I feel. I didn’t have time to fill her in on my dad coming over. There’ll be plenty of time when I get back.

She’s so excited when I tell her how understanding he’d been when I said I’m a virgin. Then she asks, “So was it soft and slow or fast and hard?”

Cackling, I answer, “Well, I was going so fast he didn’t want me to come off the tracks. He slowed us down. Don’t tell anyone.”

“I would never. But Joe already knows. Hagan texted him saying, and I quote, ‘She’s my lifetime girl.’”

I’m shocked, but every nerve in my body tells me it’s true. At first I thought it was because I’ve never been in love, but it’s more than that. The connection between us has been there since before we spoke even one meaningful word. I had to find my way to give him the code to unlock the padlock on my heart.

Soon, we’re on the tarmac waiting for the flight to take off. The thrill of flying in a private plane circumvents my heebie-jeebies. How experienced are the pilots? We’re sitting in cushy seats, listening to a beautiful, leggy flight attendant tell us all the ways to escape the plane. Does everyone want to be reminded of how we could die? Not me.

After take-off, she brings out snacks and offers beer and wine. Hagan says, “Just water, please.”

There’s a private part of the cabin with a couch that turns into a bed. “I’m tired, wanna take a nap? We have family dinner as soon as we arrive.”

Following him back, I sit on the couch while he shuts the curtains separating the two cabins. He unfolds the bed, grabs some pillows blankets from the overhead bins. He lays down and pats the glove leather bed. He pulls me in close, kissing my neck, nibbling my ear. He whispers, “We can checkmile high cluboff the list.”

My brows shoot up. “What?” Yesterday I was a virgin, and now I’m contemplating sex on a plane. My world has finally turned right side up. Someone wants me.

“Last night I made a list of all the places we’re going to have sex in our life.” His voice is confident and strong like he’s one hundred percent positive of his feelings for me. He rolls me over, facing him. No smile or dimples just the most serious expression I’ve ever seen on him. He pushes a strand of hair behind my ear. He does it over and over. “I don’t want to scare you, but I never want this to end.”

My breath catches in my throat.

Is he trying to tell me he loves me?
