He takesme home because he says he needs to get the surprise ready. I hope it’s not like Joe’s surprise. I need to take baby steps. Ginger left with Joe for Thanksgiving. He wanted her to meet his family and show off her diamond ring. I hope she comes home soon because I want to hear all about his family and how she feels now that she’s had time for her engagement sink in.

I also want to tell her about Hagan and me. She’ll be just as happy for me as I am for her. I text her to see how far way they are, but she doesn’t respond.

My phone buzzes against my dresser. “You ready?” Hagan asks.

“Yeah, I took a nap. I hope casual is okay,” I say, walking out, locking the door behind me.

Hagan hangs up and walks around opening the door for me. “Have you heard from Joe or Ginger? I texted him and he hasn’t texted me back.”

“They’re probably at his house having… you know.”

“Sex. Yeah I know what that is.”

Yes you do.

He leans over and kisses me. “You know, I’m fifteen minutes early so we have time to… you know.” He laughs as he runs his hand up my thigh.

The warmth of his hand feels so good, but I want the surprise. “I really do love you.”

“I’ll never tire of hearing those words from you.” He peppers me with kisses before setting out for the adventure he has planned.

We wind through campus and there’s a traffic jam at the main intersection of campus. We can’t see what’s happening. Hagan’s antsy, tapping his fingers against the steering wheel. He keeps looking at his watch.

We move inches in ten minutes. It’s rare to see Hagan upset. I saw it two times before we were together, and it was only at me. Both football games before the night I finally admitted my feelings for him. But he isn’t concealing his anxiousness which makes me start popping my knuckles.

I touch his arm and slide my palm into his, hoping it calms us both. We round a corner seeing flashing red and blue lights. Sirens blare as I make out a firetruck. “I bet it’s a wreck.”

“Yeah but we’re stuck. We’re going to be late.”

I slide my hand out of his hand and rub his thigh, getting dangerously close to the ridge that’s starting to swell in his pants. He places my hand on the bulge in his jeans. I love how a simple touch affects him. I laugh and say, “This is probably why there’s a wreck. Horny couples that can’t wait until they get home.”

He chuckles. “I’ll keep it my pants, but I love it anytime you touch me.”

As the distance between us and the wreck disappears, two ambulances pull away with their lights on and a third is sliding a person in. We only see feet. The cop directs us in the other direction. We finally get to The Jugger Joint, and we’re forty-five minutes late.

Hagan approaches the hostess stand, “Reservations for Chatham. Sorry we’re late. There was a big wreck.”

“No problem. We’re slow on Sunday nights.” She smiles showing us into a private room. The table is decorated with aHappy Thanksgivingflower arrangement on the table. I didn’t notice if the tables on my way in had the same decorations.

The waiter asks, “Can I get you drinks while you wait on the rest of the party?”

Hagan narrows his gaze at the waiter, but replies, “Two Pellegrino’s please.”

“Who’s joining us?” I ask.

“You’ll have to wait and see.”

We talk about our seasons starting soon and what we can do to make sure we have time together. Discipline is the key. Study while the other one is on away trips or at practice. Fifteen minutes pass and Hagan looks at his phone and puts it back down in frustration only to pick it back up and text someone.

“Maybe whoever is meeting us is caught in the same traffic.” I reach for his hand. It’s probably Joe and Ginger or Logan and Mac meeting us for Friendsgiving. Hagan’s fidgety and it’s out of left field.

A few minutes later, my phone rings. “It’s Ginger,” I say excitedly.

“Hey, where are you?” I ask.

There’s a long pause, then she stammers, “Joe and I are at the hospital. It’s bad Addy Bug. He was bleeding.” Her words become cries.
