Harper stands up, shouting, “That’s cheating. You’re not allowed to make sounds.”

“I don’t play by the rules, sweetheart,” Logan winks.

Harper’s face reddens, her fists are balled up at her sides.

He clears his throat. “Sorry, didn’t know we were playing by the real rules. Who does that?”

My entire family, including Adalee shouts in unison, “We do!”

Logan and Mac look like they’re watching a horror show before everyone laughs. Logan’s wearing Stallions lounge pants and a white tee. Mac is wearing sweats and a Mario Bros. tee.

Despite the minor setback with unknown rules, the men make a comeback, winning the game.

Next is our family favorite, Charades, so we mix teams again. Adalee and I are on a team together this time. I pray this goes as planned. My mom made sure I got the right cookie.

I stand up and act like I’m putting a crown on my head, and I sit down very straight.

Adalee, yells “Proper.” Archer says, “King.” I gesture with my hands that they’re on the right track and to keep going. Eventually, Reggie says, “Princess.” I point and nod my head, then hold up two fingers for second word.

My nerves are rattling with emotion as I walk slow holding a pretend bouquet like Adalee did at my house. Adalee says, “Bride. Princess Bride.”

“Yes. You got it babe.” She stands up and hugs me. “Love you.”

She presses her mouth against mine in a quick motion and says, “Love you for life.”

This is my opening. I kiss her one more time. “Life’s a long time Adalee,” I whisper using her words from months ago and her brow creases. “I want longer than life. I want forever.”

I bend at the knee. “Will you marry me?”

She knocks me on my back, kissing me. “Yes. Yes. Yes.”

We kiss and I roll on top of her, pecking her lips a few more times. We sit up and Harper hands me the ring. “Would you like to see your ring?”

She nods and Harper hands me the box. When I open the black velvet box, Adalee cover her nose and mouth while elegant tears fall from her face. “Babe don’t cry. It’sall your faultwe fell in love.”

“We can debate whose fault it was later,” she teases me, wiggling her brows. Adalee and I squeeze each other tight. Then we repeat our mantra at the same time. “Longer than life.”

Logan says, “Can someone tell me how I can get a pair of these ridiculous pajamas?”

My family points at Adalee and me and says unison, “That.”

On My Knees - Chapter 1 - Harper

“No. Not happening.”Hagan raises his voice.

I should have never moved in with my twin. He tries to control every move I make. My anxiety level was supposed to decrease when I decided to be roomies with Hagan. But nope, he’s acting like he’s my protector.
