The super cute bartender who has a massive boner for my husband. Mali told me all about her and how she tried to get Mali to be her wingwoman and convince him to ask her out. If Mali didn’t already hate her before that, she certainly did after. Apparently, Hayes has shown zero interest, which makes me feel a little better, but that doesn’t mean I like her.

Nor do I understand why they had to hire someone who looks likethat.

Cam must’ve woken up and chosen violence that morning.

“Where is everyone?” I ask.

She doesn’t even look at me as she answers. “Upstairs.”

Strange.I head toward the stairs when Riley stops me.

“Pretty sure you’re not allowed up there.”

My jaw falls open in disbelief.Did she really just say that?“My brother owns half of this place, and the one who owns the other half was balls deep in my pussy last night.Pretty surethat means I can do whatever the fuck I please.”

Her eyes widen in shock, and a little in rage, but I don’t give her a chance to answer as I walk away and march up the stairs. When I get up there, I find Devin and Mali looking helpless while Hayes is flipping out. Cam is trying to calm him down, but it’s not working.

“What’s going on?”

Devin turns to glare at me, but when Mali nudges her, she sighs, handing me an envelope just like the one that was left in my car. I pull it out to find another picture fromthatnight. In it, Devin is handing Hayes a bag. I’m in the background, covered in Monty’s blood and looking utterly traumatized.

“Flip it over,” Dev tells me.

I do, and the handwriting that’s scribbled across it is all too familiar.

While you’re getting your dick wet in storage closets,

I’ve got my eyes on all the people closest to you.

Still want to ignore me? This is your warning not to.

Jesus Christ. No wonder he’s flipping out. This is obviously a threat against Devin.

I run my fingers through my hair. “Where did he find this?”

“He didn’t,” Mali answers.

“It was on my windshield when I came out of the nursing home from visiting my mom,” Devin explains.

“Is everything okay?” Riley asks as she comes up the stairs.

I quickly shove the picture back into the envelope and pass it back to Devin before spinning around. “Shouldn’t you be downstairs? I don’t thinkoverstepping boundariesis in your job description.”

Mali snorts while Devin glares at me, but when Hayes flips the desk and sends everything on it crashing to the floor, he has my undivided attention.

“Fuck that!” he roars at Cam. “This motherfucker has crossed too many goddamn lines! My fucking sister? And at my mother’s nursing home, no less! Nuh-uh. No. I’m not doing it.”

Cam grips at his hair, tugging helplessly. It’s obvious he doesn’t know what else to do, and when his eyes meet mine, I can’t deny the pleading look he gives me.

I have no idea if I still have the ability to do this. It’s been too long since I’ve been his comfort. His safe space. The only one who can calm him down. And if Cam couldn’t get through to him, I don’t think I’m going to be much help. Not when I’m the reason we’re getting these threats in the first place. But I have to try.

“Move,” I tell my brother as I walk toward Hayes.

He steps out of the way and goes over to Mali. “Be careful.”

My sights don’t leave Hayes. “Don’t worry. He won’t hurt me.”

Hayes is furious. His face is an angry shade of red, and the sweat that glistens across his forehead tells me he’s been at this for a while. There are papers strewn all over the ground, the mattress is pulled off the bed that sits in the corner, and now the desk is lying on its back.
