I snort. “From you? I may as well lie in the street and let someone run me over. Save the paramedics the trouble of needing to pull my body from the wreckage.”

He clearly doesn’t like me. “No. From my driver.”

Nolan gets excited, thinking he’s rich, but as we both look over and see the poster child for hippie stoners behind the wheel of a banged-up van, we both realize the truth. He either maxed out a credit card in there, or he got the club to give him a massive discount for playing there.

“We don’t get in the car with strangers,” I tell him, walking over to grab Nolan.

His mouth morphs into a frown. “I’m not a stranger. We just spent the last five hours together.”

“Yeah, still no.”

He turns his attention to Nolan. “What about you, sexy? You want to come back to my place? I can show you things you’ve never seen before.”

I take her hand, pulling her away before she can agree to go with him. “Yeah, like the easiest way to get hepatitis. Seriously, it’s not going to happen, but enjoy your night.”

Nolan lets me drag her behind me as she struggles to keep up. She only turns back for a second to yellcall meback at him.

“You seriously gave that dude your phone number?”

She scoffs, rolling her eyes. “No. I gave him my dad’s.”

I chuckle as I take out my phone to get an Uber. “Cleaning up the streets one creep at a time.”

She laughs and sits on the bench as we wait for our ride to get here. I’ll have to take Nolan to get her car tomorrow, but neither of us are sober enough to drive. Especially not when I look over and see her drinking out of a flask that just came out of nowhere.

“Where the hell did you get that?”

“The bartender,” she answers simply. “I bought it off him. He even filled it up for me before we left. You want some?”

I shake my head. “I’m good. Thanks.”

She shrugs carelessly. “Suit yourself.”

Honestly, I’ve already had enough to drink. I’m lucky I haven’t thrown up yet. Though, after growing up with Cam and hanging around his friends, I’ve built up a pretty impressive tolerance for liquor. I can even go shot for shot with Hayes without tapping out.

Ugh, Hayes.

Everything always leads back to him, no matter how much I try to push him out of my mind. There’s no escaping the feelings for him that run through my veins. And the more he ices me out, the more I start to wonder if he’ll ever be able to forgive me.

Just like that, my mood falls again.

The Uber pulls up, and I at least have enough sense to verify the car with the app before we get in. Once Nolan and I are safely in the back seat, he pulls away from the curb. I lean my head against the window and watch the town pass me by, feeling the pain of missing him start to come back again.

“You sure you don’t want any?” Nolan asks, holding the flask out again.

I purse my lips, thinking about it before finally throwing caution to the wind. “Yeah, fuck it.”

BY THE TIME WEget dropped off, I can barely see straight. The entire world spins around me as I fall out of the car and onto the grass, staining my jeans. Nolan giggles but makes no move to help me up.

Honestly, I might just sleep here.

But wait, no. The bad man might get me, and Cam said I need to be safe. Which means I have to get inside.

It takes a few minutes but I manage to get up and stumble toward the front steps, climbing them like a toddler that’s still learning how to walk.

“Uh, Laiken,” Nolan hiccups. “I don’t think this is your house.”

“Of course, it is,” I slur. “I just have to find where I put the key so I can go to bed. Aw, Ilovebed. I wish I could just stay in bed all the time.”
