“Good idea!” He puts his beer down on the counter, and Hayes goes to grab the cleaner again before Cam stops him. “I’ll put a hundred dollars on the fact that I can win against anyone in this room.”

Yeah, all right. Fuck it. It’s been a while since I made someone feel like a little bitch. And this guy seems like he could benefit from being humbled.

“I’ll take that bet,” I tell him.

His eyes light up. “Easy, pretty. Have you ever even played pool before? I don’t want to take advantage.”

I purse my lips as I look over at the table. “Once or twice, but don’t worry about me. I can afford to lose a hundred bucks.”

Hayes chuckles, remembering the time I played against him all too well, and my attention is immediately drawn to him, only to get ripped away again as Finn whistles.

“Oh, baby. You know, I could use a sugar mama.”

“Mm-hm. How about we just play pool?”

“Or we could make this more interesting,” he suggests. “If I win, you have to come on a date with me.”

“And if I win?” I ask.

He stretches his arms wide. “You get a date with me.”

I stroke my chin, pretending to think about it. “I think I’ll just stick with the money.”

“Suit yourself,” he singsongs.

Everyone gathers around the pool table to watch me kick his ass. Finn thinks he’s doing me a favor by offering to let me break, but really, he’s just signing his death certificate. Before he even has a chance to go, nearly all the balls I have are in the pockets.

Finn’s eyes narrow on me. “You little liar.”

“I didn’t lie,” I say sweetly. “I told you not to worry about me.”

Scoffing, he shakes his head and takes his turn.

He’s not bad, I’ll give him that. I’m not saying he’s good enough to warrant all of his shit talking, but I’ve seen worse players. Still, he’s got nothing on me.

“Give it all you’ve got, because it’s the only chance you’re going to get,” I tell him.

Surprisingly enough, he manages to sink a total of three balls, but he misses on the fourth. It’s my turn again. I grab the pool stick and take my shot, sinking two at once. I shoot the last one in with ease, leaving me with only the eight ball.

“Oh, that’s too bad,” he taunts. “My ball is blocking the pocket you want, isn’t it?”

I snicker and look at Mali. “What is it about guys and thinking they know everything? I mean, are their dicks that small that they need to overcompensate so much?”

Finn gestures down to his crotch. “Let’s go in the bathroom and I’ll show you how wrong you are.”

An involuntary laugh bubbles out of me, and Cam tries to pry Hayes’s hands off the counter. Seriously, leave it to him to be so possessive, even now.

“I think I’ll just take your money, instead.”

I point at the side pocket to call it. Bending over, I line up my shot and hit the eight ball at just the right angle. It bounces off the side, and then the other, hitting one of his balls before it spins right into the correct pocket.

And that’s the game.

Finn stares at the table in disbelief while Hayes takes a hundred dollar bill out of the register and hands it to me. “Don’t worry, man. I’ll just add it to your tab.”

All of us sit down around the circular high-top table and the guys join us, being as it doesn’t look like anyone else is will be coming in any time soon. I’ve got Nolan beside me, with Hayes straight across. Unfortunately, that means Finn is on the other side of me, leaving Mali to sit between Cam and Hayes.

I wonder if she’d switch.
